It would be way too much wood for me. Depends what you're going for. Wood doesn't have to be painted white. It can be a color. Floors? Certainly remain wood. Ceiling ? Do you LOVE it? it's a room darkener. The ceilings are low.

The how much to keep, or lose, is dependent on what look and feel you want.

I will likely add Sheetrock on new ceiling and walls since I agree might be too much wood- I was just worried about having that combo in one open room-

Can you show us a floor plan of the addition? If it's an open space I don't know how you would transition between having part of a room wood clad and part drywall. I would also paint the walls and/or the ceiling as you're considering because it is too much wood - although the wood is beautiful. However, blue will bring out the orange tones in the wood, so I don't think the color you're thinking about will be the best choice. Greens look better with warm woods. If you really want blue, you should go lighter and paint one wall (or a partial wall) to get a good idea of how it's going to look before you commit to painting a whole room that color.

Thank you for your suggestion-I just took a picture of floorplan from computer-I hope everyone can see details or can possibly attach as a pdf?

I also worry about how to connect the living room area and kitchen-which will be where wood floors end and start with tile floor--and where ceilings will be sheetrock? I will need some beams and posts can try and use those to help provide separation?

And here is a picture of the walls/trim painted with icelandic blue-doesn't seem too blue to me? I will not restain the refinished oak floors, so am hoping the won't be very orange looking.
