Continued Living room updates
Thanks so much in advance for your help. Please give me any ideas!
I recently made changes to my living room - hardwood floors were redone with no stain; sofas and chairs re-upholstered in neutral fabric - pillows are 20x20, floral lumbar pillows are 12 x 20; purchased large picture behind sofa from Ballard; stripped old paint from “game” table to lighten it up. The walls are painted “revere pewter”. For reference the room is long ~25' x 15' - with the exterior full view door at the end separated from the room by a half-wall.
Issues to “complete” the room include:
- need two more pillows for the sofa, just not sure of the color to buy, wondering about “mineral” in the “antelope” print from Ballard
- Not sure about the brown curtains. They are stationary partial panels. (Translucent cellular are shades used only at night for privacy, we typically keep them up most of the day to enjoy the view.) Should I change the color of the drapes?
- not thrilled with the color of my old Ballard TV cabinet, though I do still love it. I could paint it..just don’t know if the color should be neutral or something more dramatic.

PRO3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoYour room looks actually pleasant. I would replace for sure dark curtains with light ones. You would be amazed, how look is better. Not sure any difference with background rug color for your TV stand.
PRO3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoRemove the top have of the tv cabinet, you dont need it, it would be an easy update.
The room is very pretty, I think the coffee table is out of line with the lightness of the room.
And perhaps if budget allows, a tiny bit more modern rug that will blend better with the artwork.

3 years agolast modified: 3 years agoAddressing the window treatment...it looks like the rods are all hung at the same height, which is good. Usually, when installing the rods I use 3" higher than and 3" wider than the window frame. It's not working for your windows. Extend the rods farther. (wall clock gone). Even though the panels are there for color and not privacy, one panel isn't enough....needs to be fuller. No, I think brown isn't right with the rug, too dark and too heavy looking. Revere Pewter likes the color of your sofa and rug, replace the two tables and unmatched lamps with two floor lamps and light toned draperies.
Paint the Ballard Design piece Revere Pewter in a semi-gloss.This idea:
Fan: not a fan unless you need it. A ceiling light aimed at the art is a suggestion.
