Advice on Colors of Paint for Walls

I have a semi open floor plan in a 1940 farmhouse. Enter into dining area, straight into living room, with the kitchen to the left of them. Kitchen is sage green with wood and black accents. The living room doesn't have a complete direct line of sight to the kitchen, however they feel together. (I hope this makes sense.) I have a chair I prefer not to get rid of. It is wine with gold stitching. I would like to paint my living room in a medium blue. I haven't looked for a specific color because I am not sure if this would all be cohesive. I haven't even begun to think of the dining room but possibly the same as living room just a shade or two lighter. Those two rooms do have complete sight lines and share walls.
I am asking for opinions. I asked one of my daughters and she believes everyone should paint all walls neutral and all the same throughout the house. I am 61 years old and have had neutral all my life, I want color!
Also, I am not concerned about resale value. This house was built by my grandfather and will be passed to on of my children. I will not be selling, ever!
Please give me your opinion. Good, bad and ugly, all opinions welcome.
