I am trying to get some perspective here from the different members. Our Waterproofing contractor came today for the second time after he had finished some work a few months ago. We aren't seeing any water in the section he did on the left side of the chimney when facing the house from the outside. However, now noticing water on the inside on the left side of the chimney and hence he plans to do some more waterproofing work from the outside to stop it at about the same fee as the 1st time

Also, on the opposite side of the house, we have also discovered dampness especially when there is heavy rainfall continuously over to three days but in that area, there is no water puddles or any collection. He said that in theory it could be 20 years for any water to show up so leave the dampness alone and let the dehumidifier take care of it. He said most homeowners will simply leave it alone. I do plan to put the drywall back on and make the basement into livable space. I know these rain events lasting 2-3 days are only once or twice a year

What do you folks suggest? He's basically suggesting ignore dampness, just treat areas where water is collecting
