Outdoor space ideas

Hi, i need some ideas in how to make this space more cozy/inviting. I would also like ideas on a cheap solution for adding shade. This is the area between my house and garage.

The fascia on all sides is 8’ high.

Look at sail shades to install between the two buildings. I'd move furniture out into the middle of the space, one area for eating the other for lounging. You can add outdoor rungs if it suits your climate and budget. I'm always a fan of large, colorful glazed pots with big plants. Could be a great patio area.

Get some nice upholsrered furniture wit colorful cushions and yes to sail shades in this situation you could also do motorized awnings

Thanks for the feedback! would you attach the sail shades to the side of the home and garage? It seems that would be a bit too low - thoughts?

We installed a shade sail and we love it. I think we had more height to work with though. Would installing a pole or two on one side be an option for you?

A retractable awning is another option, specially if you have the potential for high winds in your area.

A perfect area for an exciting and welcoming seating area!

1) Consider a low trellis/fence along the garage wall facing the house. It will cover the equipment on the side of the garage and have a low wooden planter in front of the trellis/fence.

2) You can purchase garden furniture to add to your existing on craigslist, and paint all the furniture the same color.

3) Put your money into lush cushions and pillows. Stick with a simple color cushion with colorful throw pillows.

4) Add a large as possible outdoor rug in an abstract pattern.

Concentrate on that wall and arrangement, avoiding spreading out the furniture, and keeping it in a comfortable conversation area.

For the shading, Here are some inspiration pics. You already have two building sides, so you don't have to build a structure to support shades. Or attaching a wood arbor from side to side would work. I'll look around for a pic on that.

You've been given some great ideas here. I might suggest if you want something more permanent that you consider a pergola that spans from house to garage. The space is wide enough that you would probably have to have support column(s) somewhere between them. The pergola would offer some shade and you could add fabric to the top to provide more shade if you need it. Good luck!
