Growing Poinsettias Outside

I've had a poinsettia for at least 8 years. This plant is as large as a small tree now. It's been repotted several times. I bring it inside before the first freeze and put it outside when there's no danger of freezing. It absolutely loves being outside. It flourishes and adds more and more branches and leaves, but when I bring it inside it kind of shrivels up and drops lots of leaves. The stem is now tree-like as well, rough textured like bark. My question is, would this plant survive being planted outside through the winter? I live on the Front Range of Colorado, arid and very hot in summer, and winters can range anywhere from 50-60s top below zero, dry or snow.
