Depends on the size of the rug

I love having a rug under the bed (they look nice and don’t move around, also comfy for our kitties) … putting them under nightstands or not is just dependent on certain factors and personal preference.

As you can see from the pictures @jck910 posted, it depends on how much room you have at the foot of the bed, the size of the bed and the size of the rug. The one thing I wouldn't do is have front legs on, back legs off as that will just cause the nightstand to be unstable unless it has full drawers - the weight might help keep it stable.

I like the look and an 8 x 10 usually works.

I've had it both ways. Depends on the layout of the room, size of the bed, size of the rug, etc. Current bedroom has a 12 x 16 area rug, with nightstands off the rug, so that more of the rug is exposed at the foot of the bed.

Thanks for the comments, everyone! My room is not huge at 13.5X15. We have new dark hardwood floors, so I would like for some of them to be exposed. The rug I fell in love with was 9X12 so I bought it, but having second thoughts about it being too big. Being able to put it under the nightstands would help! But wasn't sure if that was a common thing to do.

We have a rug under our king size bed and it goes under the nightstands! Yes, a lot of the rug is hidden but overall love the look and would do it again :)

This is why bedrooms should have wall to wall carpeting. Okay. There. I said it. Let the outrage begin.

I have a 5x7 silk rug on one of the sides of the queen bed. The nightstands are partially on it but they are not a standard ones. The pair are leggy Duncan Phyfe ones, something like this table but each top only has two tiny drawers. I don't like covering my floors up so I use this rug to step onto and the rest of the bedroom floor is LVP.
