By ;geraniums' I assume you mean zonal or window box geraniums, Pelargoniums. They are true perennials, not annuals, but somewhat sensitive to frost. Depending on how cold your winter might get, it is possible they would survive but not very likely. Even in my much milder winter climate, it is a bit of a toss up with them surviving maybe 3 years out of five :-)

Your best bet is to either bring indoors if possible - they can be grown as a houseplant over winter - or take cuttings.

If they are dying back (from cold?) already they certainly aren't going to be in good condition come spring.

They rarely survive in my garden and our winters are nothing like as cold as z7. If you can’t bring the whole planter in dig up the plant and shove it into a temporary pot indoors. In spring cut it back and repot.

I took some cuttings a couple weeks ago. A couple of them rooted. I tried using a "propagation box" with moistened spaghnum moss in it, but only the vinca and calibrachoa seemed to thrive in that. The geranium cuttings got moldy. I have 2 geranium cuttings that rooted with the good ol' cup of water technique. If the better of the two gets much larger, I guess I could take a few cuttings off of that one to make up for the losses.

Pelargoniums do not want humidity. That's why the cuttings went moldy in the box. Root them in a coarse medium, uncovered.

So far, I have successfully rooted 2 cuttings from my geraniums. I think I will let them grow to a much larger size and then take cuttings from them. I need at least 4 good plants to populate my stone planter next year. These geraniums (Crimson Flame) grow like a house afire.

Are they too big to just dig them up and stick into a couple of pots? They can be kept on a sunny window sill in the coolest room you have. Or in a porch as long as it doesn’t freeze in there.
