Black vinyl siding seems like a recipe for fading. Hopefully someone can provide you better feedback.

Well IMO we need more info as to where you are using it. I rarely like shake look siding and in black I can't think of where it would look good . Post a pic of your house and show the siding and where you want it. Do not start another post just post the pics in a comment here .

My concern with black siding is the contraction and expansion of the vinyl material.

@Patricia Colwell Consulting this is what we are working with. There isn't a lot of visual interest to our home since there aren't any gables. We did just upgrade the garage doors to a wood look, so those are staying!

Above is a picture of the front of our home. We live on a lake. I would like to side the entire house with shake siding. I have an interest in the char color, but honestly don't think it is realistic. I am thinking for a light grey, much like the option @doreenr has used. (thank you for posting those pics!). I'm considering the Atlantica color. @doreenr-how realistic do you feel like yours looks in person? I know from afar it looks very realistic, just wondering if it gives a different feel/appearance up close. Also wondering if price-wise it is much cheaper than using a fiber cement product?
