Here's the proximity to the bed and a closer pic of the register. Ideally, the air would move somehow away from the bed, but directly towards the wall with a deflector seems pretty counterintuitive. I could open it during the day and close it at night but I will never remember to do that after a night or two and husband could do it also but looking for a better, long term solution.

Are they very expensive? I don’t know because mine came with house.
Yes, air currents may bounce off wall but I would think it would be altered somewhat compared to before.
Could you just try one out?

These might give a bit of relief. Of course you'd have to turn them horizontally so they blow air towards the other side of the room.

I found a vent made of fabric designed to flow air out the side. Take a look and what see you think.

The plastic ones are so cheap I would start there. Directing the flow toward the wall may diffuse it enough that he doesn't feel any "breeze." And if it doesn't work you're out like 5 dollars. Buy it from one of the big box stores and keep the receipt....and you're only out time.

When you turn the knob to adjust the volume of air, the vanes inside the register cover direct the air towards the bed, correct? If so, pull up on sides of the register cover to remove it from the duct, turn it 180 degrees, and put it back.
