White Lotus?

Anyone else watching? I almost had a heart attack before the episode/season concluded tonight! Not what I would have guessed was going to happen. What a great show!

I am behind on this HBO show, still on Season 1. Lots of crazy characters. Now that I have finished part 1 of Meghan and Harry, I’ll be going back to White Lotus,

I have been obsessed with White Lotus! I was very tense during last night's seasnon 2 finale. Wow. Mike White is kinda brilliant.

ETA: I've also been listening to Vanity Fair's "Still Listening" podcasts following each episode and really enjoying. Like I said, I have been just a little obsessed...

I couldn't help thinking about it long after I went to bed! I also had no clue as to what was going to happen.

Every individual's story was well done from beginning to end.

While I enjoyed the acting, I much preferred the first season of the show, which had a lot of humor (especially in the character of Armond). I found the two couples intensely annoying, especially the insufferable men. That said, I like pretty much anything with Tom Hollander in it, and F. Murray Abraham is always good.

I thought Jennifer Coolidge's Tanya was hysterically funny this season. I was in stitches during the finale.

I was also fascinated by the female casts' clothes this season. Portia's last outfit was, well, see my reaction mentioned in my first paragraph. The only thing I had a hard time with this season was the soundtrack - I'm guessing/hoping that was probably intentionally annoying at times. I loved the finale's music.

I thought Tanya was more tragic than funny.

I found Tanya cringeworthy - meaning I felt embarrassed for her when she obviously was being played. I loved the music both seasons, especially the opera and was thrilled to see (hear) Pink Martini on the sound track - one of my favorite bands

I found Jennifer Coolidge's dialogue and delivery to be very funny. DH and I still recite some of her lines from Best In Show to each other.

I don’t have HBO!!😩 I am thinking of giving up one of my other streaming services and getting HBO so i can watch this. (I have told myself i cannot add another service unless I drop one…its getting stupid ridiculous.😂)

I never suspected she was being played, now Portia's boyfriend (the "nephew") was another story.

nini804, sorry for any hint of spoilers.

Poor choice of words on my part "being played" just meaning that she was so easily flattered into believing things about herself and relationships with others. Naive!

@nini804, I think these HBO shows often end up after a while on Hulu and/or Prime. Not sure how that all works. I haven't heard if there will be another season of WL, but if this was the end of it, there could be a chance it will move before too long.
eta: I just checked and there will be a season 3. Yay!!!

@schoolhouse_gwagain Oh no worries…since I haven’t seen any of it I have no idea who any of the characters are and will promptly forget everything anyway! 😂

If I knew for sure it was coming to Prime or Netflix…I’d totally wait, @Olychick but with my luck it would hever happen. 😩🤣

I don't know if HBO ever has free trials? If so, you could easily binge watch it. There are not many episodes per season. I suspect since they've announce a 3rd season that there won't be a move for a long time, if ever. A friend and I traded passwords so I can watch her HBO and she can watch my HULU.

WL was not on my radar until I listened to Mike White on Fresh Air a few weeks ago. I finished Season 1 and initially decided not to watch Season 2 because I don't like character/scenic changes. But I caved the last few evenings and started Season 2. I'm enjoying it every bit as much as the first season.

    Jennifer Coolidge is brilliant.

Barncatz, every darn time I make soup, her voice plays in my head!

I tried for the 2nd time to watch White Lotus. I remember trying when the first season came out and got through the first two episodes and quit. Tried again last night-and it probably gets better, but it was so boring and slow and the film "color"-whatever that's called, just bugs me. The main reason is it's just so slow. Anyway, I tried because I really like Jennifer Coolidge's acting.

There must be something wrong with me (LOL) cuz I seem to be the only one who extremely dislikes "Beth" in Yellowstone too. I cannot stand her character! This season of YS (so far) is not good to me-very disappointing, cheesy, and again, slow...although I LOVED all the prior seasons! I will still keep watching YS though. It isn't as bad as WL- and YS does have great scenery!

Watching now and it's really good. I think I've watched the first 4 or 5 episodes. By the third, I was hooked.

Ollie, I'd watch it just for the sound track!! And the cinematography is absolutely stunning!

@barncatz here is an article from the NY Times on the wardrobe choices. Spoiler alert!!! I haven't read all of this so there might be spoilers. Paywall should be down for this: The Misfires Are the Point: Dressing Gen Z for ‘The White Lotus'

I just about lost it laughing when Shane flippantly referred to Tanya as "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane"!

I kept surfing on by the repeat of the last episode because I didn't want to experience it again. lol But finally last night I tuned into the last 25min. or so. Still affected me (or is it effected). Geeze.

Thanks @olychick - I had read that and really enjoyed it. The male character costume choices were included, so it was a really fun insight into the characters.

I recently read an interview with Mike White, the creator, where the interviewer used a string of adjectives to describe the last yacht scene. One of the adjectives he used was "hilarious", so I felt a bit less of a sociopath for my response to it.

Barncatz, we watched the season 2 finale last night, and we laughed all the way through the final yacht scene, but we like dark comedy and anti-heroes in general, and sure Tanya qualifies IMO.

Faron, a classmate of mine in HS got a black Lotus Europa for his 16th bday and we were all so envious!

As to White Lotus, not a fan — actors, characters, storyline, setting, all a no go for me. A good friend keeps urging me to go back to give it another try but I keep finding reasons not to 😎

One of my friends actually had a white Lotus Europa in 1969. The coolest car I'd ever known. I loved when he would drive me around in it. It wanted to go SO fast, but was held back by the speed limits, lol!

I found the shows very engrossing and interesting studies of interpersonal dynamics. However I have to confess that I was shocked by the sexual practice of "rimming." That is a practice my imagination has never entertained in my 60 years and has a big ick factor for me. I also noted that the practice was repeated in season 2 when Ethan was watching porn on his computer (this act was again depicted). It makes me wonder why it was so important to the director to depict this act......

I couldn't get into Season 2 immediately after finishing 1 and I'm not sure why. Now that I've watched several episodes of 2, I think it's so much better than 1! The eye candy of Italy is incredible.

I forgot to ask: do you think Ethan and Daphne hooked up when he followed her to the island?

    Yes

I thought they did. There was so much "intrigue" around the entire sexual dynamic of those four that it just seemed to fit. I kinda wanted to slap them all.

So Ethan did what he accused Harper of doing. Plus he one-upped Cameron, so to speak, whom Ethan thought was trying to do his (Ethan's) wife out of spite. Ethan surmised it was the sole reason for Cameron inviting he and Harper on the trip.

The next question would be: Do you think the foursome will ever travel together again? Ha!

I had been avoiding this thread due to spoilers, as I had to wait until we finally finished it. I thought the first part was a slow burn and careful character study before things started to really accelerate in the last two episodes.

I'm wondering which characters might reappear in season three --- I'm thinking a couple might.

I haven't seen Season 1, so I need to go back. I mainly tuned in for the location. I love Sicily and I've stayed in that hotel before it became a Four Seasons.

I’m not reading the thread because I just started watching last night. Two episodes on Hulu, I think it was. Maybe Prime. Anyway, I’m looking forward to episode 3! It moves slowly, but interesting.
