window replacement question - did we do it “right”

Hello, we recently had our windows replaced where the scope had no impact to interior. Now that we are looking at window treatments and examining the structure, wanted advice on whether it was “installed properly”. Drafts are definitely gone, so it’s doing its job in that regard… sharing couple of photos of one window.

Have you had similar results with window replacements?

There is little room in the opening to even put on any kind of screw to install blinds, so I wonder if this is just the way it is… or if there is anything that can be done to adapt or remediate .

Any advice appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I hang all my blinds on the casing of my windows. I always extend the rods for draperies and curtains, out on to the wall, about 6 inches past the casing. Works perfectly. You will need rods for the draperies or curtains, so it protrudes out further so that you have room, for the blinds or shades. I use only round rods, and its easy to find them, with brackets that work well.

Install is fine. No impact on interior means the interior casing isnt disturbed. When a company replaces windows, they are not responsible for any window treatments.

+1. No red flags jump out.

There are multiple ways that a window can be installed in any given application. It is possible that they could have been installed differently to meet your expectations, but unless that conversation was had with the installer, they will default to the most common or efficient way of doing so.... At this point, exterior mount window treatments are the next step as described above.

We got those same windows installed last spring. Very happy and yes no way to hang blinds inside the casement.

Windows are fine. Your build is a 2 x 4 construction, as opposed to a 2x6, which gives a 2" more jamb extension. So, it isn't the window, it is the construction of the house. Outside mount is your option.

We had same issue with our new windows and it sure is a pain. Because of way installed- only can put outside mount which we don’t like and it covers the nice trim we chose. After consulting with window installer and window treatment specialists- they said the windows could have been installed differently and trim built out a bit to leave room to install inside mount window treatment. Really wish we knew this…will for sure pay attention to this in future if do this in next home.

Thank you all for your comments and replies! I am glad the install is good, but a lesson learned to bring it up with installer when scoping out the project on the casement piece. Ideally would have liked interior mount, but we will have to make do with what we have! Most important is that there is no more drafts coming through the house! :)
