What is it made out of? If it's steel, the paint job might not last all that long. The doors might be a different story, depending on the material.

Here are photos of the barn.

Here is the house and another garage on the property.

I'm not sure how obvious it is by the photos, the house is white and red.

The pole barn and the house are next to each other, so the color differences are very apparent. The house is small and the pole barn is massive.

My plan was to add a cupola, an elk mount, and some other features to make it look more interesting.

Paint the overhead doors and side door a color that works and call it a day -- that's all you need. Paint them all red (the same red as on the rest of the barn). If you try to go the white or cream route, the result won't be good -- whites are notoriously hard to get right, and you're dealing with outside light, which will magnify any teeny tiny subtle difference between the whites. The red doors will look good on the barn (the current overhead door color is BAD), and they will tie in with your house and garage. It will look good.

Thank you so much! Not to be overly dramatic, but I about fell off my chair when I saw it for the first time. My husband didn't tell me anything about it after we discussed the color matching the house over the summer. He's well put together and not colorblind, so I wasn't concerned. I learned a 4,000 sq ft expensive mistake.

I think what you recommended is likely a good solution. My concern is the red isn't the same red that is on the house, but I suppose it's better than the cream/white/gray combinations happening. I was thinking maybe some black goose neck lights. Do you have an opinion about that? I was hoping maybe the black would be a distraction. Again,that you so much!

As long as the reds are close enough and the tone is the same (blue-red vs orange-red) they don't have to be a perfect match, it'll be fine.

What about painting all doors black or a dark charcoal grey?

Paint the house the matching white to the barn, and it will come together better. Possibly think about changing all the red on the house and shed to the darker ivory of the barn’s garage doors. Just leave the front doors the red.

Frankly, I can't see any difference in your photos - both the whites and reds seem to match pretty well. I actually think it looks pretty good!
