Noritake or Mikasa for daily dinnerware

Looking to replace our daily dinnerware dishes. DH and I like the look of a design on plates, and I have always preferred the weight of bone china. The problem we're finding is no stores seem to have anything to see in stock anymore. We're replacing my 222 Fifth set that has gray marks and chips, and I think the coating is wearing off on them. These are things I'd like to avoid, if at all possible with a better set. Not being able to see these in person also makes this very difficult. I have never seen the Noritake in person, and worry it won't be as shiny as a Lenox-type china. Whereas, I worry about the quality of Mikasa these days. The Noritake does match my kitchen better, but the Mikasa looks so fun. Such an investment, and I can't just pick up a single dish to compare.

I just replaced my 'well loved' Royal Doulton Everyday Cinnabar with Mikasa Tivoli Gardens and love it. They are so bright and cheerful. The weight is great.

No one had anything to see and touch so I bought mine through Kohls (on-line). After shopping various sites I waited until they went on sale and lucked out with an extra 30% off coupon. It was well worth waiting.

You may want to research Replacements, Ltd. I have used this online store many times over the years to replace china pieces and sterling flatware. Very pleased every time. Enjoy this fun process!

I love dishes and have entirely too many at present. Of course, that hasn't stopped me from continuing to look and consider replacing some of what I currently have. I know what you mean about not being able to hold and feel anything in person these days. It's frustrating!

I like both patterns you're considering. The Mikasa is fun, but to me has a decidedly spring and summer vibe. For my everyday, I think I would prefer what goes best with my kitchen... and maybe buy a few pieces of the "fun" one to use for desserts or special occasions. (I'm big on afternoon tea!)

Ida, this is a fantastic idea! I can easily get some of the Mikasa dishes on replacements.com, or even eBay, and use them as my small plates, which, we do use quite often. We have open racks for our dinner plates, so maybe we match the kitchen with the Noritake, then keep some fun Mikasa butterfly in the cabinets for bagels and desserts! I just wish I could get a feel for the Noritake stuff. I hope it's decent, with a nice glaze.
