Table size and style help please!

last modified: 3 years ago

First home! Very uncertain what to do here size/style/color-wise. We are aiming for a round table for 4 (since the dining room table the next room over is rectangular).

Pictured is a 42” table. It is centered with the ceiling light and back door, but we're also cautious of one of the seats being too close to the island. Eventually we’ll have a stand behind the couch to hopefully take up more space as well. Thoughts? Too small? Colors off? Needs a rug? Definitely open to suggestions! Thanks!

Just from first glance, without measurements and knowing if that bay door will be used frequently or not, your table is too far out in the middle. It should be placed Moreso into the bay window area. Chairs need atleast a few inches to a foot clearance to move back. Otherwise your chairs will bump into the island. Walkway path is obstructed as well. Pushing the table back into the bay area a little more would let it function better and look less crowded.

Rotate the table so the chairs are not directly behind the island or the sofa back. Therefore the leg of the table will be centered on the door. I like the table but the chairs are too light. Since you have white upper cabinets maybe you should go with a nice white table with centre pedestal? Wait for the others to respond that are decorating experts which I am not. For now rotate the table to give more room to the chairs.

    I'm judging by the doors...........

I'd go get a 30"w x 60"l table, four legs only. That will allow a larger table and a better position under the light. If it has a leaf ? can allow six chairs when needed.

All below are Wayfair. Just google 30 x 60 dining tables

I think I need to see the whole space but IMO the wrong size and mabe the wrong shape . I do not like that particular table at all. First the legs are too spread for the size I do not think the round and dark is the right choice . I think I would still do round but a pedestal with a bit bigger glass top and really cool chandelier . Also some funky colored stools. Please get all thta stuff off the counter . BTW the chairs can have color too Ilke the orange in the fruit bowl. The knives belong where you use them for prep so at the sink

An oval table (or a round extension table that opens to an oval) would work well in that space. Agree that a light colored tabletop would balance dark floors and island.

Also relocate your garbage can elsewhere so it's not in dining space. Or consider getting a pullout Rev-a-Shelf garbage can pullout for under the sink.

You might be able to easily do an oval table and replace the chandelier. Here is an idea for you:

Or maybe a small square table:

If you do a round, just make sure you measure to see how far each chair would be able to come out being so close to the island:
