The recessed ceiling lights illuminate the cabs, while the under-cab fixture sheds light on the entire counter area.

I guess I didn't make myself clear. I am looking for recommendations for specific types of fixtures. When I do a search, many of the undercabinet lighting options show a single puck that makes the spotlight effect, which is what I don't want.

We have tape light with a diffuser (WAC). Does a great job of illuminating the whole countertop area w/ no spots or polka-dots.

Unilume LED direct wire. By Visual Comfort. That’s what mine, shown above ^^^ are. No ”spotlight” effect.

I have ugly, dark butterfly Verde and used lights that look like darbuka shows. Got them at either Lowe’s or Hone Depot.

You also want to make sure you install the undercabinet lighting toward the front of the upper cabiinets, not toward the back. That is because when you install the lights toward the back, they are mostly lighting the backsplash, not the counter. If you install the lighting toward the front of the upper cabinets, the light is shedding onto the center of the counters the way they should.

Many electricians will tell you they want to install toward the back - it's easier for them, it saves them 15 minutes or so, and they won't need to crane their necks as much. They might tell you if you install the lights toward the front that wires will show. Wires will not show if the electrician knows what they are doing. Stand your ground on this.

@Connecticut Yankeeeee, our under cab lights are neither ”dark” or ”ugly”. The fixture itself cannot be seen, unless one bends to look under the cabs. The light rail hides the fixture. The light is broadscale, and bright. Most of the time, they’re the only lights I turn on, when entering the room.

They were originally purchased from Tech Lighting, which has since been purchased and absorbed by Visual Comfort.

Pretty sure Connecticut Yankeee thinks her granite is dark and ugly, not the lights.

@mcarroll16, rereading Connecticut Yankeee’s post, I see how I misunderstood what he/she wrote. Yes, it was the Butterfly Verde granite tops he/she was referring to.

darbuka - to be clear : yup, the granite is ugly. Backsplash is ugly. The cabinets are ugly. Floor is ugly. Can ya tell I hate it all ?? 😂🤣😭.

M Miller, I agree, and I should have left my opinions on my house out of it. My apologies to Lynn Brenner for interrupting your thread. Lynn - I tried several kinds of under cabinet lights and the best type for my dark, shiny granite was as shown by darbuka.
