Table ideas needed!

I am just finishing a kitchen remodel and need some ideas on what kind of dining table will look best in my eat in kitchen. My cabinets are natural black walnut,
Granite is Typhoon Bordeaux. Backsplash and floor are a very neutral creamy color. The dining side of the kitchen is octagonal shaped and has 5 windows. It is very bright. The walls will be SW Softened green. I am considering an oval or oblong (squared oval) table and chairs, but am stumped on what type of wood/finish. Any and all ideas will be appreciated!

Note: Walls are NOT yet painted, and pic of dining area is pre-reno and still has old floor.

Can you post an updated photo of the dining area? How many people share your home with you? What are the dimensions of the nook?

I think another picture or two would be helpful. I can't tell how the dining room relates to the kitchen as far as sightlines. Are you going to be changing the light fixture and window treatments in there?

Light fixture has been replaced (goodbye to my Brady Bunch fixture!) and I honestly have not even thought about window treatments yet, but most likely they will. We are out in the woods at the top of a hill, so I like an unobstructed view. I will post more pics tomorrow (out of town today).

    nice walnut cabs.

yes, lets see the new space w/the new cabs.

also, remove the window coverings. (if you say you don't need them)

    new dining light ?

    what about a rug?

you could do a built in bench seat under that row of windows. walnut table and chairs

    Or, something like this

I love the blinds in the first picture. They would
look great and can be fully drawn up during the day. The nook is octagonal shaped so not sure about built in benches. I have been toying with the idea of a round table, but would need to have the ability to expand it when all the kids join us for dinner.

Make the chairs the star of the kitchen...a simple black, extendable table will work fine with your scheme.

A larger chandelier in the space is a must.

Here are updated pictures of my kitchen. The dining space is approximately 11 ft by 11 feet, not counting the entrance into the kitchen. It is octagonal shaped and part of the kitchen, not a separate room. Painting has not been done but it will be Sherwin Williams Softened Green. I have not picked out window coverings or area rug yet bit am thinking simple blinds that can be pulled up for an unobstructed view. The folding table you see is 48 in square. I need help
Deciding on a table shape and color(walnut, a different wood/color, painted?). Thank you for your suggestions!

So you do not think I need to stick with black walnut? I have priced a few black walnut tables and they are very expensive. But I do want solid wood, not veneer, so willing to pay a bit more.

Any idea where the chairs from your pic are from? I really like them!

I'd do a round black pedestal table in that space, either with or without a built in banquette in the bay window. Hard to tell the dimensions, but probably a 48" round would be best so you have room for four chairs.

    Something like this, maybe?

This website sells solid wood tables and option to choose wood species and stain, and option to add leaf. I personally would prefer to shop in person for furniture, but if the options around you are limited, this is an option. I definitely prefer round for your space

From a design company’s portfilio, but they may be able to advise. My guess…expensive.

If you like the style, I’ll try to find something similar. What is your budget/per chair?

Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but my current dining table is this one (I have the black, but I think the coffee might look really nice in your space): RH Salvaged Wood Trestle Round Table

Only suggesting because you specified solid wood - it's definitely solid wood, and it's lasted/taken a lot of abuse (4 different moves + daily life with an active toddler) and still looks great. I have the 60" which comfortably seats 6 adults, but they also offer a larger size to accommodate up to 8 people. Is this your only dining space, or is there a separate formal dining room? Would you be open to an area rug under the table? It would definitely help define the space.

you can still do the bench w/those windows. they would be great for kids. you could have a long table and just use extra chairs (and a leaf) when entertaining.

if that isn't doable, then just get a table w/a bench. put in on the window side

    or, find a longer table

Hi, Maria … how is the rest of your house decorated? What style(s) of decor do you like? How many chairs do you need? What is the budget for table and chairs (keeping in mind the rug, blinds, etc)?

Can you see other rooms from the dining area? Is this your only eating area?

So many options out there, but narrowing things down will help. :)

    Your cabinets are so lovely!

ETA: These are the chairs you like from Maureen’s post, just for reference:

Thank you. Our home is in the woods so we have tried to maintain a semi-rustic, natural look. Our artwork is mostly wildlife or nature scenes. I have an actual moose head in my living room, as well as a bear. (Sorry if this offends anyone. We hunt for meat.) Earthy colors.

I need a table that seats 6-8, with the ability to expand it when all our kids/families are here. Of course the size of the room limits how much. Also have a breakfast bar/pass through that should accommodate 4 (it is 101 inches long)
    once I buy stools.

The dining opens to the living room, the pass-through gives us a semi-open concept.

    Any suggestions are appreciated.

I love the turned legs on this (extendable) Hooker table. This style has a rustic elegance that’s very nice.

    I like this one, too:

Another idea is a Mission style table:

There are companies (many are Amish owned) who can make these custom for you. The stain you like, size, everything. The classic, rustic, simple lines of it would fit well with your decor.

I saw that one here, but am not familiar with the company so am not suggesting it specifically, but as a general idea. Maybe there is someone local to you?

It would look great and interesting to mix chairs that aren’t exactly matching in style with these. Give you a more collected-over-time feel.

measure your spot for the table/chairs. Look online at some tables you like. get the dimensions.

take painters tape and mark out some table measurements so you'll get an idea of how it would look in your space.

as for style, you want something wood, maybe w/some black, or black chairs?

That light needs to go. It does not match the kitchen or style.

    This table would look great.

    what about something like this?

    https://www.etsy.com/listing/768528895/the-square-leg-reclaimed-dining-table

this type of light might work.

add a rug and some chairs

lots of places on Etsy make these. and you can custom design them.

Lighter wood table, you can use darker chairs

or, bring in neutral chairs. this isn't rustic.

if you want lighter, try this look

or something like this w/a linear light fixture and taller chairs

    something like this?

how many suggestions would you like?

I found this great solid wood oval table. It’s on sale, comes in a few stain colors (provide samples) and comes in two sizes. I think it could be perfect.

I was thinking that bench seating will reduce the number of chairs needed, so will off set some of the bench‘s cost. Being so close to window/view and kids loving benches (use a wipeable fabric if they are young) might be an ideal solution. Add Roman blinds, a new chandelier that doesn’t obstruct sightlines, black chairs (can always have pads made with fabric used on bench for added comfort).

The black chairs are interesting.....a nice contrast to the natural wood tones. So to clarify what I am hearing, a walnut table is NOT a must have? Mixing wood species is acceptable? I assume I would look for a color/tone similar to the cabinets?

Several people suggested black chairs. I have decided to do that, and then will
Get similar black bar stools. I like the contrast. Thank you so much!

Your kitchen looks great! since it wont cost anything i would take down the window treatments since they are dated.

I just came here to say your cabinets are GORGEOUS! Lots of good suggestions on tables so I won't chime in on that! ;-)

Thank you. Candlelight Cabinetry, from Lockport ,NY.

To all who commented on my outdated valences....I totally agree! My husband "loves them". Lol! But they are being replaced...as soon as I choose a table, chairs and rug. I don't want to pick something and then regret it!

Has anyone purchased from this company? They have some beautiful stuff! I found 2 furniture stores in the Buffalo area that sell Amish made tables and chairs. I looked at a few beautiful pieces. But this site has better prices, no middleman, but I am wondering about
    the quality.

Thank you for this link. It has some very good information about table size that I had not found anywhere else. Have you ordered from them? Can you attest to the quality of their products?

the dining space with the curved windows wall cries out for a large round table a rectangular table will not look good as it clashes with the curvature of thr windows im not s fsn of built in bench seating at a table as it limits movement of the persons in the center Id go for white or cream wood to lighten up the space as the kitchen cabinets offer enough darker wood to the area or a black table will offer a dramatic look def do not go with a wood tone same as cabinets that will be too matchy matchy! rattan chair will look lovely with any table if you go with rattan chairs, get a good wuality as cheap ones dont hold up

These tables also come in round, up to 54 inches,. which is 4 feet 6 inches in diameter. Either just simple round, or optional with extension, more guests over the holidays. Dark charcoal stain, or light ash, or maple, cherry or walnut. Expensive imo, but maybe if you like the simple, light looking Shaker style.

Maybe you'd be better off with just a round table bigger than this. Maybe 5 to 6 feet diameter.?

I am avoiding table legs, prefer a simple pedestal instead. Easier to move around the table in the octagonal space. I am considering this Amish built table in maple with a special walnut stain (second pic is the stain), with a black base. And black chairs with the special walnut stained seats.

This style chair, and I thought the classic shaker shape.
