Are you replacing the roof anytime soon? It's very prominent so any scheme will have to take the roof color into account.

I would probably remove the overgrown shrubbery and either remove the shutters or pick a color that was more correlated with the brick. Obviously the shutters are undersize and non functional but they are often a characteristic of this style of house. They could be wider, even though they would never be wide enough to actually function.

I dont see anything wrong with the house, except for the roof needing cleaning, and all those shrubs pulled out, and the front landscaping redone. The front door could be a brighter color, and hopefully, when the front landscaping is redone, you will have some actual flowers, instead there.

The shrubs are hiding most of the house. All we can see is roof. I'm generally not a fan of removing existing landscaping when there isn't much of it, but in this case, it's worth it. You can transplant your shrubs. Find a place for some or all of them.

When you say theres "no features" to appreciate... I would hit pause and look up some inspiration pics more in line with what you do have, which is not farmhouse but prairie style, which was the predecessor to Frank Lloyd Wright and all the midcentury styles that came after. Yours of course is a very modest, simple version of it (and Im guessing more recent build, not very old..??) Still the more you make your updates in line with/harmonious with the original bones of a house the more pleasing the result. At worst you end up with a "frankenstein house," a mish mash of parts and the kind of house that sits on the market forever because no one wants. The low slung hipped roof , strong horizontal lines, solid masonry exterior - all classic prairie! Not saying you have to create a museum, it can be eclectic but updates just need to be in sync with original style. The generous sized windows which youlll see once the scrubby bushes are removed (LOL) are features which can be played up -google prairie style windows . Keep the brick and choose only roof color (if needed) and trim/door colors to harmonize with those. So, no to the lemon meringue colors for exterior but perhaps that color scheme would fit somehwere inside. Its a very handsome house as is and doesnt need much at all as is. For now better landscaping and paint the door, shutters (lose the shutters if/when you can afford architectural prairie style windows)..

What kind of budget? The current aluminum windows are certainly not adding anything. As others have said start by removing the landscaping, then replace the windows possible replacing all the ones under the porch with French doors. Shutters might be nice if properly sized but again we can’t see the front windows at all. I’d likely paint the brick (which I rarely suggest)

I prefer black door and no shutters for so big windows.

Change the lights.

I think we where all a little concerned that you don't notice the predominate feature here? Also when you say paint color? you mean the trim and door?
