Hosta Lakesides 2022 .........

Good morning. A slow start for me. Someone tore up my craft room last night and now I have to go and straighten it up again. So is life. Show me some Lakesides to brighten my day.

Have a great day everyone!

So good Paula. Well there are so many lovely LS's but I have to say Saija Prophecy & Prophecy Fulfilled are outstanding. I have some to get planted. Midnight Miss, Tee Ki, Zesty Zeno, Old Smokey, Spellbinder that I remember. Mary was a busy lady.

    Cupcake

Dot Com needs to be moved, it gets smaller every year. It used to be lovely.

I know Mary Chastain created the Lakeside hostas, but I am wondering why she called them Lakesides? As opposed to Chastain or other? Looking to hear that story….. I also have the impression that they are rather difficult to grow……My LS Paisley Print died down to nothing after two years…..sigh

I have to agree with peren about saija’s LS Prophecy…..absolutely stunning!!!

Gary, I only have LS Banana Bay. It was new last summer and about the same size as yours. I am wondering how old yours is and do you find it a slow grower like many of the LS hostas?

Beth you have such a variety of LS hostas that are doing well, what is your secret?

Hosta_maker, nice LS seedling! Thanks for the other info on LSBB. I always like to learn!

Shadow, your LSPP looks quite different from others, is that because it’s young?

Peren, your LS Downsized is so lovely and full. Perfect shape! The Looking Glass seed is really nice and crumpled…….love that!

Old_dirt, Your LS Paisley Print is really a nice sized one! If I could find one that size I would be tempted to try it again……

I am envious of those of you who have multiple Lakesides. I only have one, new last year, LS Banana Bay. Hope Hopefully,if it’s tet as hosta_maker says, it will do well for me.

Here it is with a bit of burn adjusting to it’s new home. Rocks are to discourage squirrels digging.

Love that BB Debra. Mary & Roy Chastain lived near the shore of Lake Chickamauga in Ooltewah, eastern Tennessee.

Down Sized is definitely my best LS as far as growth and it is very floriferous. It never falters. Others not so much. She did breed for heat tolerance which may explain why some are weak for me. The last couple of years have been brutally hot so they should have performed better but did not. Could be the winter temps that are problematic.

debra my Banana Bay is several years old. It's a slow grower for me but if it is a tet like hosta- maker thinks, that would explain a lot to me. Tets don't do well on the whole in my garden because of my soil (heavy clay), but would do great in a pot for me. Maybe I'll pot it up this spring.

Debra, I do find many of the Lakesides are tempermental. They need to be moved around till I find their happy spot. I also find the dark ones are heavy feeders. Also some of the pictures are taken in the spring when they look the best :)

if hugos database is correct this would be the lineage, some of the ploidy is listed. but if it all started with florence shaws shade master that one is listed 4-4-4 although summer music is listed 4-2-2 banana bay has a much thicker center, so assumed tet. so far i haven't gotten seed from it.

Thanks, I'll have to check more into it. Since I don't plan on using it in my breeding program, I just kind of let it slide.

I have large number of LS hostas, my favorites that I collect, some OS.

They do well for me, need to take better pics next year.

I love Lakesides because they like a piece of art, each one of them.

LS Fancy Pants, taken at dusk. L S Frosty Morn.

Lindalana - Lakeside Frosted Mint, right. Which I've been looking for. I grow a non-Lakeside Frosty Morn and to make thinks more confusing, there is a Frosted Morning which I didn't even know I wanted until now.

I have a few but less pics this year or still maturing leaves me with only one to share.

    L. Symphony

Found a couple more. L. Keepsake with L. Midnight Miss in the upper right

and L. Midnight Miss with L. Rocky Top peaking in on the right

and just because I like this pic, L. Rocky Top in the center

clockwise from the left is L. Midnight Miss, Corn Muffins, Blue Regal, (World Cup) and Miss Tokyo

I have been having computer problems so I stopped posting photos. The computer I am now using is very small. I will have to go back and look at all the alphabet when I get my own computer back.

Paula, I should try canning soup that way. Much faster! The ostrich on the board is cool!

Since it more difficult for me to post pictures, I will just post the one that I did not see on this thread.

Lakeside Love Affaire. I have two of them. They don't melt out for me.
