Since the space is tight, I’d mount the headboard so it just clears the top of the mattress, so the bed can go right against the wall. Try both a bed size and “one size larger” comforters and to see which one provides enough overhang to cover the box springs/frame.

This is good advice. It will also make the headboard you like more prominent.

- Ditch those dark sheets; they don't match the linen-parchment colored headboard at all.

- To match that headboard, I'd go with a comforter and lots of pillows. Plenty of fluff so it looks like you'd just sink into the bed. These things will also add just a bit of width to the bed, which -- if you raise the headboard -- you will really need.

- I like bed skirts. They add to a sumptuous look, and they're way better than the metal bed frame and wheel showing. The no-skirt look is only for beds that're finished with lovely legs.

- Once you have your linens, make the bed every day. No bed looks good messy.

- No bed exists in a vaccum, so attend to the clutter -- the laundry basket, etc. detracts from beautiful bed you desire. Maybe you need some closed storage in this room?

- Once you've done all this, look into a nice nightstand, as this one looks rather small for a large bed. And add a lamp.

I do feel like the headboard will be too high for the space if mounted above the bed- it is an older home so 8 foot ceilings.

Do you know of any good quality, sleek bed skirts that will look more like a wrap?

I find they are often hard to keep in the right place on the bed.
