rug under a pool table

We're replacing wall to wall carpet in basement but wonder if we should break up the monotony of that carpet with an area rug under the pool table. Thoughts? And what size rug if so?

I would not put a rug under it and over carpet— it might affect the level of the table, could possibly cause tripping while moving around the table, etc. Carpet underneath is good for stray balls and such, but I wouldn’t add a rug to it.
