Calling all awkward space specialists!

I’ve recently moved my bed to the wall with the windows. I’m trying to work with the furniture I have, but it’s kind of awkward. I feel like it’s getting there but it’s a small space and I could use some finishing touches advice. I also think I need to consider nightstands and perhaps a dresser. Would love to see what you all think. Thank you.

I agree, I’ll look for oval NS

To me, the hilja looks cheap.

I really like your room. Some things to think about. I have put beds under windows and love it, but no headboard or footboard, I let the windows provide that look (besides I always stub my toes 😉). I would remove this bedframe and use either a basic frame for boxsprings and mattress or a platform, and put artwork between the 2 windows. Lightblocking Roman shades on all windows for consistency - they do come in a variety of fabrics, OR if you don’t need light blocking consider top-down, bottom-up cellular shades, again, same style on each window. As for furniture placement, find a new room for the pie chest, it looks lovely, and get a complimentary white chest to place next to the existing white chest in it’s new location. Other options for storage include deep, 2-drawer nightstands and invest in a closet system for organization.

I agree the Ritva is more appealing to me too.

So much fun to check back and see all of your progress. I would have thought about this for six months and then done something a year later. Bravo Bravo. It looks incredible. Want to come do my apartment next?

You are very kind. I have been thinking about it for a while! And yes I’d love to lol

Hi Stacey, first, I must say that I really have a difference of opinion with Valinta’s advice. Most particularly about the bedframe. That headboard & footboard are what set the tone for everything else in the room! I will say I really like the look of at least a headboard on beds regardless of footboard but with yours, both are needed for the look & they aren’t bulky pieces that take up space either physically or visually. Her advice on Pie Safe - well, you’ve already stated it’s needed for storage. That need aside, it’s just a great piece with the bed. I don’t think a row of white dressers on the long wall works either - & then have a NS on that walll for bedside too? Removing bed frame & black dresser also removes the ’black & white’ theme for room that’s so nice with the rug colors. Okay - I’m done voicing my opinion - & that’s all it is, another opinion to consider. I think I’ve gotten a bit attached to your room decor 😊

Your curtains - I like the softness of existing panels but the linen panels are really nice. Seems like you wouldn’t need nearly as many with linen - they aren’t as ’flowing’ or can’t be ’gathered up’ as much for lack of words to describe. I’m wondering if only 1 panel on each end would be enough & several fewer in middle - you might have enough. If not & if you find you really like the look of linen but can’t get more of them, maybe try a mix & see how it looks. For the 2 ends, try linen on outside, sheer next to window & for the inside, add a sheer panel next to window on each side with linen filling the middle. That would use 6 linen & 4 sheer panels. It looks like they both have same tab backs for hanging?

That white NS - I really like it! Round is good too but the rectangle provides a tiny bit more surface space to set things on. I think I might want the same shape top for NS on both sides of bed though.

Love the white dresser on large wall add your mirror over it for sure….black pie cabinet best on left side of bathroom door and opens up the walk-in way around the bed..small chair in corner right of bathroom perfect! Work on your nightstands..the most important is that they are same height..than add lamps that match…curtains add nice softness that was needed!

Ok. Swapped out the rayon panels for the heftier line type panel. I think it looks like enough. Hung the mirror.

I’d like the mirror over a dresser but I feel like the wall on the right need something. Maybe something vertical to mimic the window on the left?

The linen drape panels look perfect! The spacing looks like it allows just a bit more glass open on windows which is nice. Not sure that something more is needed on that right side of wall. Some ’negative’ space is good to allow the eye a place to rest. Maybe you plan to put something on wall with chair in corner by bath & / or over the pie safe? Is the black chair staying? You mentioned it isn’t your favorite chair but I think the size & color work. If you replace it, maybe think about a print with black & white color in it. I can picture a small chair like that in the spot - just to break up all the solids. You have pattern in rug & pillow & a small piece with pattern might be nice.

I’m starting to think about some details now? Any thoughts on some of these items? I tried to find black and whites

Looks sooo nice love the white dresser on that big wall.

I just came across this…is it too tight? If I use it doe I need the chair? I like the way it brings the natural tone to the end of the bed and matches the shades.

Can you bring the area rug out further from the bed? So that the bench sits on it more and you get to see the pattern of the area rug better?

I think so. I’ll give it a go tomorrow or later. Putting my feet up with a glass of wine now :)

What a transformation by using what you already had and a few minor additions!

Thank you! I love this game and I’m really starting to love the room.

Love the bench! Besides complementing the shades, it’s nice with the tall baskets or hampers you have in there - last saw one under a window but seems to have moved. Maybe they go in corner after moving chair out. Laughed at reading ”…just came across this…” It’s fun to move things around & repurpose in different rooms. Well done & that glass of wine is well deserved!

If you ever swap out that tall white dresser - would it make more sense to replace w a horizontal dresser centered between the mirror and the corner w the mirror above?

Possibly snobunyz24. So the chair leaves and the laundry basket goes in. I think my husband will appreciate being able to put his socks on in front of the closet and the laundry basket near the bathroom makes sense to me.

Yes use the bench remove chair and enjoy a bit of space empty in that corner..maybe a hamper basket instead.

You found a bench!!!!!! And it's perfect!!!!! I love the added warmth!

Ant the Ballance is great. You are working so hard and doing so well!

No, if the bench works you don't need the chair, but then that balance will be messed up. Besides, if your bubby is like mine, he'll sit in the middle of the bench and you might need the chair. :-)

I am amazed at what you've done. You must be so pleased!

    Thank you!!! I am pleased!

    Don't mess with success.

An opposiing vote here: I don't love the bench. Your bed frame is just beautiful and the bench really detracts. Plus, well, how do I say this delicately - it looks cheap. The other items in your room have more of a one of a kind feel - even if they are not. This bench looks rather mass produced and really stands out in contrast to the rest of your pieces which are an eclectic but harmonized collection. Before the bench, your colors were really meshing, but with the bench the colors have more discord.

I too prefer the chair over the bench. Plus I feel the rug shows better without the bench. Which do you think feels/works better in the room?

Just so you don't think everyone feels the same about the bench... I like it because it invites someone to sit down and take their shoes off right away, leading to comfort. I like it because it helps balance the extreme coolness of the pale blue, grey, and white. I like it because it repeats the black of the beautiful bed frame.

But you decide. You and your hubby. I think you've done a marvelous job.

I like the look of the chair but it’s location isn’t great for actual use and then we have to walk across the room from the bathroom to put our clothes in the hamper. The bench just functions better. It faces our closets and also provides a place to put a hamper of clean clothes down as I put them away. Now, is this the right bench?

Would a fabric one be much upscale looking?

I would have said the issue is both dressers are tall. That expanse of wall where you now have the white dresser would be a nice place for a longer shorter piece with a great mirror above. I liked the white near the bathroom door. Too bad the switch is there because I would have wanted it on the other wall facing the bed.

Stacey, function should take the lead every time. I'm so glad you are receiving the benefit of function! And you know what I think about this bench. I love it. I love the texture contrast and the color contrast. I love that the legs repeat the bed frame and the seat repeats the floor and window shades. But that doesn't mean that you or someone else might discover an even better option. What do you and hubby think?

Thanks K L, so far so good. I’m afraid to ask the hubby lol. He’s not good with change!

I quite like the bench and having a laundry hamper in the bedbroom is so useful.

You've been considerate about his needs all along regarding dresser and storage. I can't help but think that is your nature, and surely hubby knows that and trusts you. The room is pretty and more functional.
