how many drape panels do I need?

Wanting to get rid of these horrible wood blinds and do drapes with the rod set high. How many drape panels should I buy? I have never done a row of windows like this. Thank you!!!

measure the width and x2 at least. they need to have a gather when hanging, not stretched tight across the window. ... and extend the rod beyond the outside window trim.

I would leave the blinds and ADD the panels for an interesting layered look.

... premade panels usually come 50" wide.

Agree with Lyn. I don't see anything "horrible" about your wood blinds which match your window trim, and which offer very functional light control. Up, down, shut, open, partially open, etc.

I have a wall of windows similar to yours, and I placed a long rod across all of them, with supports (for the rods) located between the windows. You may have some trickiness because the photo makes it appear as though the walls aren't straight, so the long rod will need some kind of attachment at the angle to allow for the angled wall. Those types of things are probably not too tough to find, and any color you find could be spray painted to match the rod. That's what I would do.

Thank you lyn and Mrs. S. We are going to be painting the window trim and all of the trim in the room the same color as the walls for a cozy monochromatic scheme similar to Heidi Callier designs. Here’s an inspiration photo.

That’s why we are thinking we will remove the white wood window treatments.

Oh, I'm crazy about Heidi Callier's work. I follow on IG, etc. Then out with the white blinds! Out, out they go for that deep-toned, cozy vibe.

But you still may want window treatments other than the drapes, you know, for light control.

What I have for drapes are on rings. They slide along the bar... but... almost all the time, it is the blinds that I use for light control, because tugging on drapes all the time isn't ideal. You can have natural-tone blinds. Those would be beautiful.

Or, try it without and see how it goes.

Isn’t her stuff just gorgeous?! So do I have a a few panels on each end? Or do I pull a panel to be in the middle?

I personally would have panels hanging in between each window. You're going to need supports anyway for the bar, so you won't be able to have panels that slide all the way across.

(Unless there's some fancy new invention I don't know about, where you don't have to support the bar..... I'm not sure how that would work...)

Please do come back with photos after you paint and do your drapes. I would loooooove to see how it comes out....

SORRY.......... But this is way too much window for panels as privacy, and still too much window width even decoratively.

It's fine to have inspo.....but this will be clutter!!!!

Me. more suitable to the space, no matter what you paint? Silhouettes, or Vignettes........Both hunter Douglas.

Or look at Horizons natural woven wood shades, they come cordless, you may be able to even do and inside mount, with a deep warm nutty texture.

But? I'd forget the clutter of panels, of curtains entirely.

I’m a big fan of Heidi’s designs, too. It’s always a treat to see her new posts on IG.

She posted a wall of drapes today. Gorgeous.

I’m not suggesting doing this, this room and these windows are very different than yours, just sharing for fun since Heidi was brought up and I saw this on her IG before coming here.

It’s hard to say what would work best in your room without seeing and knowing more.

Thanks for your comments. Would it help to post more pictures of the room?

It would, yes, but also more about the exact look you’re going for. Her rooms above are a very distinct look … with painting your room that way, will it flow with the rest of your house? Is this room open to others? What paint color are you going to use? Furniture style? Rugs? Patterns in the room?

Lots of factors to think about.

This is the other side of one of the rooms you like:

Looking for ideas is a great first step, but it might be best to wait on the the final decision about the windows until you have a well-formed plan (if you don’t already) and see how the room is shaping up.

ETA: I hope I don’t sound patronizing … you may already have specific plans and everything worked out except the curtains. Even so, it would help to know for the best suggestions.

I completely understand. And no, your 100% right. No plan, just going for it. We haven’t done any updates to our living room. Just furniture. Our shelves are a mess right now because we just painted the mirror brackets and a cabinet in another room. So ignore the clutter. I painted the fireplace first to see if I liked it and I do.

Obviously the white contrasted with the fireplace is horrible! Our painter is very reasonable so we decided to just try it. Plain on painting all trim, shelves, built ins an swapping out hardwear

Also, the mirrored wet bar has glass shelves. We painted the shelf brackets brass this am

Oh, I remember your room now! I was on one of your other threads.

I think the fireplace turned out great!

Yes, I’d wait on the drapes for now, until more is done. But that’s just me, not any rule.

Looking forward to seeing how it all turns out!
