why is the tree staked ..why cant it hold itself upright... is it potted ...

can we see the whole tree ... including pot if any ...

i see a mechanical injury.. and the tree responded by putting out a new shoot directly next to it.. why have you not properly pruned out the injured one ... the number one premise of pruning is removal of any and all damaged limbs ...

i see no rot.. is there some.. or are you just throwing out a term of art???

It looks like wounds from being held/rubbing on stakes too long.

In the second picture, there a tie holding part of the trunk onto a stake. That'll be the next place damage will occur.

Ok thanks that makes more sense ill remove the stake. yeah so it is the main trunk and throwing out new growth above so didnt think of pruning so heavily.

yeah i just assumed it was rot but your term fits better ill try pruning back and let the other shoot lead
