Shower curtain advice

I am remodelling an old bathroom and unfortunately there was not room for a separate tub and shower. I do not like taking a bath with shower doors, it feels too closed in. At my last house we had hinged, glass doors that folded to the back wall. But apparently they are no longer made. So I have a dilemma and I am considering a shower curtain. And although they look nice in photos, I have never been a curtain fan because it seems like they never really dry. They are always unsightly hanging, drawn, in the tub to dry off. The vinyl gets mineral deposit spots and the bathroom takes on a mildewy plastic smell. I don’t want to be throwing away a liner every few months, that seems wasteful. Perhaps my previous bad curtain experiences were due to purchasing the wrong type of curtains or not maintaining properly. Can someone give me a lesson on shower curtains?

Buy a nice cotton curtain with a liner. There are liners (I think they're made of polyester) that you can put in your washing machine. You don't want one of the stiff plastic ones. They're not very expensive. We have one bathroom with a curtain that DH uses. We wash the curtain about once a month and when that doesn't do the job anymore, buy a new one. They dry quickly. You see them in hotels sometimes. Honestly, it beats having to dry off glass all the time.

There is also the "problem" that some people move around alot, and move the shower head and eventually the curtain gets wet. And so some re-training is involved. Make sure you run the exhaust fan after the shower; make sure the liner is inside and the curtain is outside the tub; and spread the curtain so that air can circulate between the curtain vertical edges and the enclosure. You can close it entirely after the room airs out. And it really is better IMO than drying off glass or looking at the messy insides of a shower! I have a nice fabric curtain that I made and looks great in the room.

The ones I see in hotels now are, I think, polyester, they dry quickly, and I assume they go in the washer easily. I see them where a top band with grommets is on the curtain rings, and the bulk of the curtain snaps on to that, which seems easier to remove and replace than the grommets on the rings.

I have shower curtains on two showers (I hate cleaning glass doors) and buy polyester ones. One shower has a double hook and I hang a decorative fabric curtain on the outside. The other just has a plain white curtain liner like in hotels. They dry quickly and if they get anything on them, I wash and bleach them (which I do about every 6 weeks or so anyway). I don't have chlorinated water, so it grows algae pretty easily (that kind of pinky orange scum) and we use bar soap, so also get some soap scum. Washing in the machine in hot water with bleach added keeps them pristine. This is what I use:
