purple is nice. Grape hyacinth, violets and ornamental alliums would look nice, but you'll probably want a ground cover or something similar to take over the space after they're done blooming. I’d echo the idea of planting perennials. The new foliage will be coming up as the daffodils are blooming. Imo nothing other than foliage really goes with daffs.

Even if you planted other spring bulbs, there is no guarantee they will bloom at the same time as the particular yellow daffs with orange centers you have. That is a hard target to hit because of all the variables involved. They could be early, mid or late season daffodils.

If you want to try, maybe look for some white daffodils with orange centers or try some chionodoxa, a small bulb with sky blue flowers.

Since your grandfather gave you thousands of daffs, why not cull the ones you don't care for? The remainder will form clumps and you'll be thinning & replanting them in a few years.

@User I’ve always seen them listed as fall planted bulbs but i have shuffled Daffodils every spring for the last 5 or 6 years and they always come back and bloom the next spring. Honestly they’re just impossible to mess up. i just found a bucket of bulbs from last spring that i forgot to replant and another clump that i set out in the woods and didnt get in the ground. Both clumps going crazy! i don’t know if they just really like my TN weather or what but they havent seemed to have any prefetenced here lol
