NEW HOUSE-KITCHEN

Hello..
We are building a new house and the house is two months away from getting completed. However, we have to get some cabinet work done around the house before we move in.
We are considering getting couple of additional cabinets done on the kitchen counter to serve as appliance garage since we have several appliances
Would greatly appreciate your expert opinion, advice and suggestions.
Thank you all in advance 🙏🏼
P.S: Please find attached pics of the kitchen as it appears now and pic of where we plan to put appliance garage.

I would not, throwing an appliance garage that was not planned for will look awful and exactly like an afterthought.

    Ohok.
I was thinking of something like this

You need landing space for both the fridge and the ovens so I don't think it'a a good idea to block that counter. How big is the panty? Maybe you can keep some of your appliances there, and the small, light appliances can be in an upper or base cab.

You have A LOT of cabinet doors. I think adding more will make it look incredibly busy.

You need the counter space there. You must not give up the counter space for appliance garages. What are the appliances that you want to hide? For appliances used every day like coffee maker and toaster, leave them out like everyone else does. If you are concerned about appearance of the appliances that are supposed to be in a kitchen, then spend the money on attractive coffee maker, toaster etc. For appliances not used every day, put them in the innumerable cabinets that you already have.

Yes agree this is a very cabinet heavy wall. adding more will not look good. if you want appliance garages i’d get rid of the upper row of cabs. otherwise use the pantry if you want to hide things. plenty of room in kitchen for food.

Thank you all for your advice and guidance!
@Sena01..We have a corner pantry and it’s quite small. I would have kept my appliances in the lower cabinets if not for back issues.

If I were to add some more color to the kitchen, would it look good if i got the lower cabinets painted grey?
    Thanks

No, that would be a mistake. Adding gray cabinets does not add color. There is also a school of thought that the trend of base cabinets being a different color than uppers is on its way out, but that is not as important a reason.

What I would do is make the cabinets' doors glass that are on the lower set of uppers that are between the wall ovens and fridge. That would lighten up the blocky-ness of the cabinets. You could put in those glass cabinets your glassware which would continue the reflectivity of the light, and perhaps colorful coffee mugs, and if your dishes are colorful you could put them there and add more color to your kitchen that way.

You can also add color with the counter appliances that you mentioned - toasters, blenders, mixers, all come in colors. That is better than hiding them with garages - it kills two birds with one stone in that it adds color and also being on the counter is easier for you to access with your back issues. Other ideas to add color are a colorful bowl on the island, a colorful canister that holds spatulas and other small kitchen tools, and a colorful pepper grinder.

All of your lower storage should be drawers. You could convert some lower cabinets to open with drawers. They are a big back saver and super convient. I have no lower cabinets in my kitchen and love it. Easy to find things.

Did you check any mechanisms(?) for base and wall cabs? They may help you.

Just curious….how do you plan to access the second row of upper cabinets?

You have some really nice drawers to the right can you make those into appliance storage or like SENO01 suggested get those pop up shelves and do your appliances in the location you originally wanted. GREAT invention. This will save your counter space.

@Sen01.. great idea for the appliance. I am going to check if they can do this. We have a drawers above the cabinets. Hoping that won’t be a problem. Sending a pic

    @Anna Devane..
We were actually misinformed about our ceiling height. Had we known that the ceiling would be this high, we would not have gotten the uppermost cabinets. Now after spending so much money on the cabinets we are not sure if it’s a good idea to even take them out.
We are thinking of using a tall ladder to access them and store things that we use very occasionally.

@Houssaon.. we have all drawers except one area where we have cabinets. I need that to put some tall items.
