I think she means not having two types of seats with arms right next to each other. Ex: placing a side table or lamp between the two.

Here is example of what not to do. Notice the arms of the love seat and sofa. Not good. Space is required to avoid this.

Any chair or sofa should set separate from the piece near it.

Why not float your sofa (whichever sofa you decide on) in the room facing the fireplace? Then, put the television above the fireplace. Keep your single chairs on each side of the fireplace. Move your painting to where your television currently is or another large wall (your painting looks beautiful but its too big for its current location). This layout would solve your radiator issue and there would be no need to purchase something to go underneath your televsion, which I agree you would need if it remains in its current location. My favorite funiture combination for this room (out of what you’ve showed us) is the sectional with the round wood table.

BTW - This community is so super helpful; it’s amazing to see!

Also, those two chair with the rattan that you posted are on trend and would look lovely in your room. I say use those!

Sunshine, thank you! The TV will be too high over the fireplace in my view and won’t be comfortable. But yes I need to reconsider the painting. I love it and it’s an investment so would love to display it but this room is so tricky!

I understood the TV was not going to be moved. With a 90” long sofa, floating it facing fireplace won’t leave sufficient room for walkways and appropriate distance from radiators at least as shown in photos? If you replace sofa, and get 84-86” long sofa, you could float sofa facing fireplace. Which view is enjoyed most. Fireplace or TV?

I have incorporated large art over mantel’s successfully because the client loved the art. But, keep mantel completely clear. No smalls on mantel. That is why I also suggested cabinets or combo of units either side of fireplace. That helps balance out art size. Try that first.

I wish I could say fireplace view was enjoyed most Flo, but the truth is it’s the TV ;)

Hi Flo, I’m working on this and will look for a console table for behind the sectional. Any advice on what would be a good size for it? From your drawing it looks like one about half the length of the sofa will be okay? For height, I assume same height as sofa is ideal? Thanks again :)

I would do something very simple. Glass and metal of your choice. At least 60” long for sofa. No more than 14-16” deep. And approximately the height of back of sofa. Usually around 33” high? How high is yours? The sofa.

With the sectional a long 28x40 or so ottoman can be both a table surface, laptop desk and pulled in close to add chaise-like use for group tv watching.

Dan, thanks I will consider that! I’ve been hesitating to do the ottoman/table because of kids and they’re messy, but you’re right they’re very multi-functional and if I get something not white it may work!

DC. I like that wall look for your TV a wall. It will depend on the size of your TV and the length of that wall if it can work. What is your TV width? What is the wall length? What is your ceiling height? Once I have that info, I can do a scale sketch for you.

In thinking about coffee tables, consider lift top tables. Many styles, finishes and sizes. Be great with kids and storage inside and on shelves and/or drawers.

The wall is 94 inches, TV is 47 and ceilings are 9 feet. Thanks Flo!

This ottoman is 38x28x18-7/8 with storage and removable washable replaceable cover. FINNALA Ottoman with storage, Gunnared beige - IKEA 5 colors.

Here is first option for TV Wall. I put 6’ long shelf 12” below TV and about 18” above floor. Need about 16” for baskets or small stools under lowest shelf. On right end tall black finial. On right a geometric accent piece. (I estimated location of TV and height. TV might be higher. Have to verify specifics). About 6” above TV To the right a 4’ shelf. On left of shelf a sculpture of bird or sone clean line accessory. Above that shelf a black framed piece of art. About 12” above 4’ shelf I put a 3’ shelf. A stack of books on right and a plant draping down over shelf.

The exact placement of the TV on the wall is important. I guessed based on photos.

Here’s a little mood board with examples of shelves and items for shelves. You can pick style and items you like. Just keep shelves minimal for best look. Today, there are many choices for floating shelves and hardware for them. Just find ones you love. I posted a live edge style but you can pick what appeals to you. Etsy has many choices with depths and lengths you need.

Great! Just make sure the lower shelf is high enough to put baskets or little cubes under it. 20” up from floor to bottom of shelf should accommodate any items.

Okay update! We’re not done yet, but have finally gotten rid of the grey sofa and installed a floating shelf below the TV. They didn’t have the smaller ones for above so I’m waiting to see - perhaps we can do some art instead. Also need to hang something above sofa and still looking for a console table. Need table or standing lamp? And thinking I need some color in sofa pillows but not sure what.

Still very happy for more ideas :)

Looking great! Yes, a floor lamp with black shade would be very nice either by leather chair or on end of sectional. Move round table more toward front edge of seating of sectional. But lovely job. Is the TV a “picture” tv! It looks great!

Option 1: 2 old paintings - I like them but worried they look to yellowed in the otherwise bright room (can also use only one of them)
