What would you do?

What would you do to update this 1955 exterior to a casually elegant home or would you tear it down?

Is this home structurally sound? What is your budget? What is your vision for a "casually elegant home"? Here are some ideas. https://www.houzz.com/photos/query/casually-elegant-exterior/nqrwns An architect can work wonders on the front of some homes, but you have to answer my questions first. Do not do anything until you have a plan.

The most likely direction to search would be “mid-century modern”…but most importantly will you be be happy with this size house and lot…since it doesn’t appear that there is room for change in those two categories

Love the color of the house! I would paint the secondary door the same as the siding and the front door a deep yellow. Move some of the plantings from the living room window to the left side of the front door.

I don’t love the paint color and the driveway looks a little old so yes, you should demolish the entire house.

Post a picture of your concept of " A casually elegant home".................

You tear down a home when the floor plan, the number/size of beds and baths, the kitchen, et al can not POSSIBLY meet needs or expectations.

When the lot and location are worth far more than the home itself.

Otherwise? You don't buy the darn thing, or you cosmetically improve the street appeal.

I assume AiFL was joking? (don't answer that!)

I like the shape of the windows of your home. If you can, I'd go lighter on the siding, maybe a tan/gray color, and paint the window trim dark. Colorful front door, paint the secondary door same as house color. Possibly upgrade the garage (?) door; I can't see it very well.

Landscaping: To me what brings your house down is the sad grass lawn and narrow concrete walkways. I see palm trees, but I don't know if that means Florida or California or somewhere in between. Look into xeriscape front yards -- google and you'll find many images specific to your state. Or you could push it all into a japanese/zen type garden. Think wide gravel paths, well-placed interesting plants (yuccas? palms? cactus?) and a few swaths of ground covers.

    Lots of potential.

Looks pretty casually elegant to me. All it needs is some inspired landscaping.

I’d put my money into incredible landscaping, then choose a paint color to complement the plant choices. Here’s a before photo and some wonderful after photos.

Even simple changes could make a big difference: fresh paint, generous steps, posts at the corners and roof jog, new or painted door, and lush plantings. Oh, and wider trim at the bottom of the (former?) garage window.

    Very nice simply natural

BTW, the last two renderings illustrate how considering the auto color as part of the landscaping makes the whole more cohesive.

tear is down?! lol why? It's a vintage florida ranch. (unless it's vintage so calif ranch)

    like this one

I'd totally do old mcm florida w/your house.

DigDoug and TopDesign have given you two great photoshops

all you need is some new paint and a lot of landscaping

take advantage of the MCM bright colors. like vintage miami or palm beach back in the 50's and 60's

lush greenery, tear up that concrete and replace w/pavers and stone

redo that awful driveway. this is a similar model home. see how they did everything?

    lots of foilage

The city needs to come out and redo your parkway. That's a safety hazard. if you call them and tell them you keep tripping over it, as do your guests, they may come out and redo that curb.

tear up the parkway and do some pavers and pebbles.

If you want to stick w/that current color palette, here you go: mabye tidewater for the body, white trim, and moscow midnight for the front door. Or any variation of those

if you want to go more miami beach, black and white w/the coral front door

a front door like this, the proper hardware, modern numbers/light and a cool chair.

here's a miami black and white stucco, more modern style
