• Why not do a door like the front IMO a back door off a kitchen should give you a view of the back yard. As for storm doors I think what you need over the door in the front is some protection from the elements and there are phantom screes to aloow the door to be open and get the nice breeze.So an awnign over both doors phantom sreens and IMO matching doors .

There is nothing wrong with storm doors if they're full view like the one you have on the front. If you do like to leave the door open part of the time and have a storm door then you should get one. They're not necessary with brand new insulated doors but that doesn't mean you can't have one.

The top or bottom door pictured would work as far as style. The middle one has some Craftsman detailing that you don't need. If you like color any of the blues or greens would work with the yellow. Since the white isn't going to match the trim I would get something else.

The first and last option seem like the best fit, style wise.

Wood doors are great but feels more like a front door option or to coordinate with a wood front door. If that's not the case, then go with a color. I would choose one of the blue colors. Avoid trying to match the white house trim with the white options --it'll always be a miss if not an exact match.

The midwest homes in my neighborhood all have storm doors too. I don't like how they look but appreciate the function they provide. Go with how you live life, especially if it's the same style you have in the front, the most minimal of frame.

I have full view storm doors. My only issue with them is in the summer with the screen insert it is very easy to put too much pressure on the screen, you know, while bringing a tray of drinks outside 😉. The phantom scrren may work better. How do those work with grandkids?

I like storm doors on all doors. While I do like them to have a lot of glass, I dont like the full glass, because, I like to have a pull down screen. I also like the storm doors that have a dead bolt type latch, rather than the little button on a latch. Its really nice to have your doors open and let a bit of air in through the screen, and at night, put the glass back up.

I have storm doors too. Just make sure they’re painted the same color as the door they’re covering.

Your house is very charming! I cannot imagine a house without stormdoors because they cut down on drafts in the winter and allow air and breezes during the sunmer. They have come a long way since the aluminum doors from the 50’s to 70’s. Yes, choose full-glass versions that are the same color as the main door.

A storm door is just fine if it's something you would use! I had a storm door on my old house front door and I never used it, so we removed it. My brother just added a beautiful wood storm door to his mid century home because he will use it like you describe. Your house is so very lovely! If you're keeping your current white storm door, personally I would probably do a white door. Just my personal preference though.

Thank you so much for all the feedback so far! I talked with the salesman about the door again today and he thinks the white will match - our trim is SW Arctic White and he says he thinks it will be a match for the Provia white (well, I don't know he knows this, but he seemed confident). So I'm definitely leaning towards the white door. I also received an initial sketch of what the addition will look like. It is 10'x12'.

Also there will be two windows on both sides of the corner, not one like shown. One path here leads to the gate in the fence and the street (it is a corner lot) and the other one leads to the garage. We will probably work a small patio into this, but just to explain why there are two sidewalks, and that moving them would be difficult.

We were really leaning towards the dentil shelf (the extra trim on the door) because it looks nice, but I know our house isn't craftsman, so you really have me rethinking that!

Door 2 or 3 in blue would be charming!

As mentioned, full glass storm door in same color is fine.

My 1939 house is a pale yellow (SW Harvester) with ivory trim (SW Roycroft Vellum) with a black roof. My front door and ProVia storm door are Enzian blue. It still has its original front door which is very much like that white door, just with 6 small panes of glass instead of one big one. The front door paint is SW Indigo Batik, which is pretty much a straight match to the Enzian Blue.

As for my back storm door, since both my trim and the original door match ProVia Primrose Yellow, I just chose that color since I needed to have a dog door in it.

When I repainted my house 4 years ago, I thought maybe I wouldn't need a storm door in the front. I was wrong. Many drafts and a cracked 1939 door later, I got a storm door for it. (Photo was taken before the front storm door.)

Go with the color that strikes you first - you will be the one looking at it every day. I would probably go with either white or whatever color the front door is, but not fake wood paint. Storm doors are important for antique wood doors, but not as much for new steel doors unless you sometimes want to leave the door open and have just a glass door there for light and view. I would probably just use an exterior door with 9 pane window on the top and no storm door - one more thing to unlock when trying to get into the door with items in your arms.

Your home is adorable! But, I think the bush detracts, and overwhelms the house. A blue door would look quite nice. Have fun!

What about a screen door? I have a vintage-style wood screen door that I painted black like the trim on my 1939 Craftsman House, and I remove it in the winter.

Looks like your doors are craftsman style on a cottage house. I am seeing a lot of homes in our area switching their craftsman doors to the four panel glass. Like the one below. I actually did that in Florida and I love it. My sister has a hidden screen by Anderson if you need a screen. It pulls out of the frame. It’s pretty cool. Your house is adorable.
