I think that agreeable gray will be a grayer version of the color you have on the walls, but I don't think it will necessarily be better than what you currently have.

Your floors are mid toned and much of your furniture is mid toned and mid toned walls are just too much mid tone neutral.

If you like agreeable gray I would try White Heron (Agreeable gray @50%). It will add more contrast.

At least there is enough contrast between the neutrals to give a bit more life, but what is going to save you from drowning in a sea of neutral is adding some color in your décor.

Again, just dropped some colors into the photo. May not be "Your" colors, but it is color.

Gray is not warm or cheery. A cream with a hint of yellow perhaps?

I'd find a WHITE. Which? No idea, you will have to test a few, and no clue the n,s,e,w exposures of your rooms.

Add RUGS to your space! Find a color you love beyond gray. The blues in the art in the dining space? How about a dusty blue, deep blue, on the walls in that room ? Echo it in a rug?

The world is loaded with paint colors, and is not limited to they myriad shades of gray OR beige. I just see spaces crying for some warmth, texture, color....................and a relief from the much done, and over done gray and more gray. ( even the doggie bed is gray , he's very cute )

We have area rugs for both tables and a 14 x 20 rug for the living room, they are just in the process of being cleaned.

Seeing your rugs might help, when available. Just based on your lovely flooring’s shade, I can’t see grey being as complementary and modern as the right shade of white would be. Maybe if you and your husband looked at inspiration rooms it may help with the color decision (next decision then is the shade). You can always add more grey with accessories.

Gray is a cool color, not a warm color.

Yes Jenna, but they make warm-gray paint colors. It all has to do with the undertones. If a gray has a blue undertone it will be cool, and some grays have beige undertones and are warmer.

Thank you all for your advice. I’m thinking in the future will we replace some of our furniture for lighter shades and our rugs are light. I agree it’s all about balance. I wanted lighter floors but my husband loved these. Just now have to switch some things up to make it all work.

I like to start with 2 things when I begin building a color palette.

First is the colors that must stay. (You just replaced flooring - not going to change, kitchen cabinets or countertops, furniture or art that you love. . .)

Second is figuring out how to incorporate the colors that you love. We all have some colors that just make our heart sing. (Research shows that looking at colors that remind us of past happy experiences will actually increase dopamine levels).

If you love fire engine red you may not want that as a wall color, but wouldn't it be wonderful if the neutral you picked looked good with fire engine red?

I like deep purples and wine reds and find that greige colors look muddy and lifeless next to the things I own. A taupe with purple undertones works so much better with my art and belongings.

My one sister loves fall colors, especially the deep mossy greens. A taupe with purple undertones would look pretty awful with the things she owns and loves.

My sister in law (light blond hair and blue eyes) loves cornflower blue and pastel peach. A light creamy wall color with yellow undertones looks best with the things she owns and loves.
