extra large refrigerator

I am trying to find the largest capacity residential refrigerator and I’m having a hard time getting research past promotions and member only websites.

We have the space for an extra large fridge and I do not care if it is counter depth or sticks out. We are a large family and I’m
sick of running downstairs to the extra fridge!

I have no preference on French door or top bottom. The only thing that bugs me is plastic components that break and crack. I would like water/ice in the door but it is not necessary. Just going for as much food storage as possible.

Thanks!!

Whats your budget? What about separate refrigerator and freezer?

Just throwing this out: We have a large-but-not-outstandingly-huge refrigerator in our kitchen + a large dorm fridge (with separate freezer) in our pantry. The dorm fridge is the one we bought for our kids years ago, and we keep canned drinks in the fridge portion /ice cream in the freezer section. Removing these items from the main fridge makes all the difference in the world. We eat low-carb, so we always have a ton of fresh veg -- and that takes space.

walk through Lowes/ Best Buy / and a locally owned appliance store. the latter is preferable as the staff is trained...they know various features / energy efficiency issues etc. They print off any spec sheets you want for any model and you can take and study..... What you want with multiple people opening/closing all day long is good storage configuration on the inside so the door doesnt get held open excessively...help for the overall life of the unit. Frequent pulled items go in logical easy spots and other storage drawers/ racks as you desire . go examine the fridges in the stores ASAP. online info is only part....you want to see in person.

Maybe a photo of your current open fridge might help with suggestions. What is taking up the most room?

For us, it was my DH's sparkling water which was taking up a lot of space. In the current and previous houses we have had a separate under counter beverage fridge for his water and that has worked well.

Do you have another spot for the spare fridge to get it closer to the kitchen? Laundry room, mudroom or pantry?

You really should go shopping in person and look for yourself. Or at least pick out a model you've physically inspected and do price comparison shopping later. Your food shopping, families eating preferences will make a difference and only you may know. i.e. I now have a KitchenAid french door that is listed as 25 cu feet. Something with the layout of it makes me certain it does not hold the same food products as easily as the 25 cu ft Amana single door bottom mount that it replaced. I liked the convenient loading of the Amana better and could swear it held more ;) What I didn't like was that the compressor failed in it the day before we closed on this house at 5 years and 6 months old (seller repaired, their cost), and failed again 5 years later - resulting in the Kitchen Aid purchase. It's OK for two with a lot of family dropping in and out, but a large family full time?.

A friend has 2 Sub Zero fridges (with bottom freezer drawers) side by side (handles in the middle). Each one is maybe 40” wide. So it sort of looks like a really wide French door fridge. Works for her big family out in the country.

Thank you for the feedback. Some ideas I hadn’t considered- a smaller beverage fridge in the kitchen or pantry. And getting out to see the products is probably best. Great advice.
I prep a lot of meals and refrigerate to cook later, keep a lot of fresh produce on hand, and we host holidays for lots of people. The shallow depth of built ins is frustrating, I’ve heard. I hadn’t thought of two columns to make up for the depth and add space.
We can make the budget work for whatever would be best and last a while.
This is the first appliance purchase I’ve made with a decent budget, not just buying whatever we can afford.
Thank you for your ideas and advice!
