What is the type of Mohawk Engineered Wood installed? What is the current finish? Doubtful anything can be put over the top but lets start with that info.

Did the builder clean and then protect the floors once they were installed?

Did they stay protected during the last few weeks/months of construction?

Did the movers protect the floors during the move?

Sliding cardboard boxes on wood floors is terrible for the finish. You wouldn't think cardboard would be abrasive, but I've seen the results.

Did you test samples of the floor before you bought to see how easily they could be scratched? I took a key to any samples I brought home and tested how scratch/dent resistant they might be.

Chipsa: Yes. The floors were installed last. They were absolutely covered completely. Yes, and the salesperson & the store manager BOTH said that it’s a good quality product. Not top of the line, not entry. Middle tier - and I was fine with that. I’ve had hardwood all my life. I know it scratches. This however, is unbelievable. Everything scratches it. EVERYTHING. I did test it and it seemed fine. I have had the store that install it come out & their wood people said they have never seen anything like that. They have told me in person that it’s an anomaly. I just want to put something on top . I can’t live like this & Mohawk is a big waste of time. Yes I made sure the movers were extremely careful. We didn’t even have furniture yet to move in. I also have proof of that. The inspector from Mohawk told me that there was some kind of wax they could apply ( it would have to be done every 5 years) which I was cool with, but he never did elaborate and I don’t have his contact info. So I thought someone here might know. I do also know that when they tested the wood, a weird brown color came off. The inspector said he hasn’t seen something like that. So any help would be greatly appreciated

You didn't mention the finish ... poly or hard wax oil?

What is the wear layer?

If you have a decent wear layer (4 mm) and your finish is poly, then they could do a light sanding and reapply a poly coat. With a hard wax oil finish, you could do a coat of the hard wax oil, but I don't know if they suggest also sanding the old scratches.

Do Not put wax on a poly finish or vice versa, as you will have a mess and certainly lose all chances of any warranty claims.

If you have all these people saying the floors have a problem, then I would be looking at contacting an attorney to send out some letters.
