Rug matching advice!

Building an eclectic/mid century type den. On the fence about this rug, since I'm not feeling like it pulls in these two colors. Any rug style/color advice would be SO appreciated!

I agree with @Jilly. The rug looks great with your sofa and chairs. BTW I love the sofa color! Do you have other pieces picked out for the space? Do you have a coffee table? Are you planning on hanging curtains? Art?

I guess I'm the oddball here, but if you're designing for an MCM vibe then think about more geometric patterns rather than traditional. It's not just the palette to consider--the palette you picked is fine--but the pattern doesn't do much. Start an "MCM living room" Ideabook and see what Houzz serves up in terms of rugs. I like the blue tones in the rug below with just a little cinammon in the subtle geometric pattern.

Traditional Oriental and Persian rugs are appropriate for eclectic MCM inspired rooms.

Geometric rugs can be a good look, too, especially if you're wanting a 2020’s MCM themed room, but you can certainly mix and match successfully if you’d rather.

Many actual 1950’s - 1970’s rooms had solid rugs or wall to wall carpeting, so use whatever you like. Make it personal.

When ordering a rug online, try getting smallest rug to see how it looks with sofa, chairs, flooring. Then return it for a larger size if you like it.

Would there be any advice on an accent chair on the other side of the rug if I kept it? Thinking about a cream colored chair- but also open to other colors? At a loss!

Here are some carpets from the internet whose colorways might look well with your furniture.

I am little confused with your carpet and its colors.

It doesn't look like like a traditional handmade Oriental carpet.

Of course, I could be mistaken.

Another thing- If you have children or will have them, so much white might not be a good thing.

Your rug is nice. What don’t you like about it? You mention in your post that you don’t think it ties in the seating colors. I think it does; but it is challenging to get the exact right rug to tie your bold seating colors together. You can go to some of the rug sites and use their visualizer tool, and that can give you a better idea of how the rug may work with your pieces. Rugs Direct, Incredible Rugs and Decor, Crate and Barrel, and a number of other sites offer the rug visualizer tool.

I love your vibrant color choices. My approach would be to let your bold pieces stand on their own - and give them a backdrop that would showcase them - without trying to match the colors in a rug. So I would use some type of black and white rug.

This is just one view to show the general concept; it doesn’t necessarly have to be this specific black and white rug.

I think you are on the right track with your interior pieces, you are just missing more decor pieces that will add the feeling of completion to the room. Personally really like the rug and other furniture tones. If you still wanna try and see how different rugs would look there, you can try using this free tool for rug visualization in the room - https://dressmycrib.com/.

I think your choice is putting the cart before the horse. Given your statement:

    1. first get a sense of how to achieve this look overall. Think big picture first.

    2. a rug doesn’t necessarily have to pull your two colors, as accessorizing will do that. Don’t be too matchy for the eclectic component and room will also be more dynamic.

    3. If you are doubting rug already, that’s the first sign. Highly suggest saving rooms that appeal to you, identify furniture and accessories you are drawn to and then consider a rug.
