I have a recessed light over my sink since I want the maximum amount of light there. If a lot of light is important to you, think in terms of getting something that gives you that, and don't choose only by its appearance. You might look at a lot of "kitchen sink lighting" photos to see the possibilities and what you might like. Better, maybe, than asking random people what they like!

recessed or pendant. are you putting pendants over an island, is there any near by hanging lights? I would say go recessed for the most part.

Depends on what you're doing elsewhere in the kitchen. Assuming that's pendants, then I would definitely not put a pendant here, and instead would do a flush mount with some projection from the ceiling. If you didn't already have this wired, I'd suggest a sconce on the wall over the sink that's angled down. Just a recessed light is fine, too. I think in general, small pendants over the sink is a bit dated.

I'm trying to make the same decision for my kitchen right now and after looking at tons of examples, I just don't like pendants covering the window. I'm leaning towards a sconce or flushmount from olde brick lighting.
