A few clarifying questions:

I see what looks like a driveway and garage to the left in these photos, but no walkway from there to the door under the portico. Is this door used?

I assume this side of the house faces the road and is the "front" where the silver maples are. (Those are the branches framing the house in the last photo, right?) Does anyone approach from the road, or only from the driveway?

How would you like to use this area?

And what are the existing shrubs? I think I see yew, but can't be sure of the others.

It is also helpful in dilemmas like this to take a picture from the street..showing the whole property and even even how close the neighboring homes are..this assists in what scale in plantings are needed …as well

Unfortunately the scale of the new entry seems off….does not fit/flow as well as the wider porch probably did…the crowns are too pronounced and do not tie into the roofline smoothly

Is the Redbud going in front of the garage windows?

I think you should decide which shrubs you know for sure you want to keep where they are.

Next decide where you want to plant the Japanese Maples.

The current look does seem a bit hodgepodge although it is generally attractive.

Remember that when a plant is described as dwarf that just means it is smaller than the species. Dwarf Buford Holly, for example, can reach nine feet tall.

Agree with the more pictures needed comment. Back up onto the street and give us three pictures - one of the left side of the property (picking up just a bit of what’s NOT yours to the left), one picture of the whole house (if it can fit in the frame), and one picture of the right side of the house (and a bit of what’s NOT your property to the right). Do not take a panoramic picture as they are too skewed.

This is because we need an idea of the whole property when you are talking about planting trees.
