I think it's Virginia Creeper , Parthenocissus quinquefolia. It has fewer nodes than PI, thicker roots than PI, very distinctive round bud scars, and buds, and the arial roots are only growing from the bottom of the stems. PI arial roots grow from the tops of the stems as well as the bottom, and they are much thinner.

Both actually. The bigger stems with roots appear to be poison ivy, but the smaller vines with the buds showing are virginia creeper.

I think you are right and both PI and VC are present.

what didnt come thru on the pix.. is how green the roots are ... almost like they were covered in algae ... gave me a real floating seaweed vibe ... .. but i was a bit dizzy walking around the yard.. .....

we tried to take a pic of some dried pieces.. but couldnt get the camera to focus on the pieces.. rather than my finger.. or the shrub 10 feet beyond....

also.. i had huge PI vines growing up serotina/cherry and oak across the yard ... and i dont recall them looking like this 20 years ago.. i thought PI was more fuzzy .. but then back then.. they were 6 inch diameter vines ... anyway.. im not sure i ever saw PI growing up a smooth barked tree .. and that was why it looked so different ...

lastly... from the pix.. you can get a hint of the bending caused by first the ice storm.. and then the snow storm ...
