Wow, what a great yard! Your kids are so lucky to have all that space.

Are your well & septic field in front? I'm hoping you have space for a couple of blue spruce near the road without getting too close to the septic field.

Here are a few suggestions:

You certainly have the room to put in a mixed shrub border across the front. I'd do a mix of evergreen and deciduous species.

But I'd skip any blue spruces :-) Picea glauca is overly prone to needlecasts and diseases pretty much anywhere east of the Rockies because of adverse climate conditions - too hot and humid in summer and too much rain.

In a somewhat similar situation, we found that a simple split-rail fence was all that was needed. Just something to give a sense of separation from the road.

Something I was very aware of, was not planting things that were going to eat up too much of the yard. I wanted to preserve space for croquet, badminton - things that take up a fair amount of space. There is also the question of how much do you want to hide the house from the road.
