Basement floor paint color

Hi, I need help to pick a floor paint color. I decided to simply paint the concrete floor and will be putting an area carpet on afterwards. My walls ar

are Benjamin moore Nightshade. I was thinking of painting the floors black but I am not sure if this is a good idea. I don't think I would want white floors at all. Would it look terrible if I painted the floors the same color as the walls? I had decided to paint the floors and the stairs in black but am very unsure at this point. The stairs have primer on them and really like the color on the stairs and was going to just paint them the color that you see in the photo. I painted the same color on the floor as a sample to see if it would look good but because of the lighting it did not turn out the same color as the stairs. That is why I am wondering if the floors might look ok the same color as the walls in nightshade. Its a very small basement in a townhome. I have wall art already in black and white and I have a very nice white countertop to go over the washer and dryer with a big mirror I will be hanging over the wall above the countertop.

This room will be a laundry room-massage spa room. The space is very well lit so the dark color looks really nice. I was going to put vinyl floors but I decided to simply paint the floor. Any suggestions?

IMO not very spa like and not sure what you want from us if you love it do it. I have never had good luck with painting concrete but usually in old houses where who knows what was spilled before i came. I think do it if you hate carry on with vinyl and the rugs will help a lot.

Black will show everything! Gray would be too much. Is there an accent color?

Since the washer and dryer are black and white, I bought black and white spa like wall art. I know it looks terrible right now as it is not put together because I am having a hard time picking a paint floor color. This is an old home and the floor is not very level so wasting money on vinyl flooring is not a good idea. Would it be a bad idea to paint the floor the same color as the walls? The rest of my home is decorated very modern and nice, however this basement is really giving me a hard time. I will be putting a nice area rug so it will hide most of the floor. Maybe one or 2 feet will be showing around it. Any suggestions would be helpful. I don't think a beige would work either, really need some help.

Thanks for your comments, the previous commenter was very negative.

I think painting it the same color as your walls will be unifying.

since it is an older home, and you plan to cover with an area rug at some point,

How about having some fun and paint it the gray shown and spatter on a couple colors like a retro lineoleum, with a bristle brush.

I would choose the rug first then take a color from that for the floor. Since it's not a really big area, matching as close to the rug or lighter would be my suggestion because I think a darker color would make it seem smaller.

I suggest to paint the staircase all white with a runner and to paint a stencil pattern on your concrete floor below...

I have had good luck painting concrete floors as long as they are prepped correctly. Stenciled floors can look nice, but it’s a lot of work if you’re going to cover it with a rug anyway. And you may have to level it if there are dips and valleys. If they’re already painted, and not much damage than I think you will be fine with another coat of paint. White or black (or very dark) will show everything. I like the idea of taking a color from your rug. Maybe more info on your idea of spa-like? My idea of spa like is lighter aqua and pale wood tones, but I think you have something different in mind.

Thanks so much, the staircase is beautiful. My area rug would be the same color as the stairrunners. I don't like a pattern in an area rug, I like the one solid color in an area rug and the lighter color would lighten up my floors. I like the stencil idea, however thats a lot of work and my house is old and not perfect. I have been testing a lot of colors on the floor and the only one that looks good is black so far. I even painted a sample on the floor the same as my walls but because of my potlights, the color looks very strange, not like the walls at all, must be the potlights that are changing the color. The walls on the picture that you sent with the stair runners is the same as my walls.
