Wood floor width

I live in a 1920's colonial and our 1st floor wood is beyond repair. The second floor already had replacement wood flooring at 2.25" width that we put in about 16 years ago. Now, with 4" being more on trend locally, I am debating between continuity with the 2.25 - or the fresher more current size. Or maybe the 2.25 was a trend at the time we put it in?

People buy in our area because of the historic architecture - so already bummed that there is no way to save the original floors which are 2" - or maybe even more narrow. Our style is transitional.
