You are in a 1920s colonial. 2.25 inch width fits the home's history.

However, you should not be concerned about the next buyer. They will not pick your house over another because of 4 (or 8) inch floors if they are in great condition. They will not also select another home because you have 2.25 inch floors that are in great condition.

People who would make those choices are probably not buying 1920s colonials.

At least that's my opinion!

Every day I regret the second family who owned my house installed 2 1/2” oak flooring instead of staying true to the house’s build date of 1800. The floors in the rest of the house, random widths of 4, 5, 7, and other in the original wood species. It is jarring to the senses to see flooring that is 127 years wrong.

Try to stay as true to the period as possible in a vintage home. I’ve seen at many old homes that, as remodeling1840 says above, where it’s jarring to see such a difference. It’s not always possible to match but make an effort. It’s sad to me when houses are “grayed out” these days.
