There are many white roses out there, but I’d still prefer to buy an ”old” rose. Plus, most teas thrive here. Better than HTs, IME.

The plant was happy in Newhall, but the flowers fried. What I would be concerned about is the size. Your open space seems a bit "tight" for the size it usually demands to be.

How about an alternative, smaller shrub with fragrant white flowers?

Snowbird is great when it comes to heat -- looks good even when it's over 100F. Good leaves, easy to grow, and an easy sell, too: when neighbors see it, they want it. So far, it has migrated to two other houses down my block.

That's a shame. RU is a good source. I haven't purchased from them nor Rose Petals because their shipping is PAINFUL. Far too "rich" for my blood.

Yeah, the problem with RU for us on the west coast is shipping. I put together an order of 6 roses from them for spring 2022 shipping, making it more reasonable. One was for one of my trading partners. I actually had 5 on my list, and decided on Coffee Country as my #6, completely forgetting that I wanted Snowbird to replace my beloved departed one. Been kicking myself ever since.

I’m thinking of alternatives. Bolero? hot and dry tolerant?

'Blanc Double de Coubert' didn't do well here (too hot?, too alkaline?), and other rugosas don't, either. It was a wonderful, wonderful rose in my western Massachusetts garden.

The ONLY Rugosa or Hybrid Rugosa which did NOT rust in my Newhall garden was Linda Campbell. Long, arid, hot seasons are generally not compatible with Rugosa genes. The season lasts longer than the productive life of the foliage and the weather doesn't trigger it to fall when the foliage condition would suggest it should be the "end of the season", so it gets old and contracts fungal issues in order to finally fall. Believe me, I tried every one I could get my hands on. I WANTED them to succeed. Far too few of them did and they could not be sprayed against those issues. Anything other than water and the foliage yellowed and fell. The only other types to follow that progression were Eglanterias. They HATED anything other than water on their foliage, also.

I'm not familiar with Snowbird - I'll have to look it up.
