BK Ahhh, the hosta 'hosta'. A hosta so special it needed to be called hosta twice.

The only places that still sell hosta locally are Lowe's and Walmart. The selection has gotten slim to none. If I did a post on green hostas with a small white margin I would be ready. I have not yet made a order to Seabright. but I did check them out. When I started outside I found that the work to be done was more than a few weeks. Why I decided to dig out the tree stumps I will never know. I am working on Greenhouse #1 and plan to be finished tomorrow. When I get into greenhouse #2 I will then start to work on the hosta hideaway. Then I will be ready to order.

I live in PNW / SW WA & I visited Sebright Gardens in Salem, OR last April. I bought 2 hostas & two ferns. Great place - I wished I could have spent several hours just looking at all the potted up hostas & ferns they had but we were on way home from a road trip. My favorite of the 2 hostas I got that day is Guacamole which did very well for me in a huge pot. Those limey leaves are wonderful & the flowers are fragrant! I let my hostas flower for the hummingbirds. We are having the coldest & wettest spring in 20 years out here in PNW per the weatherman. Salem is @ 1.5 hours south of me & they’re experiencing the same. We had a sudden hail storm yesterday when the temp dropped - enough hail that it looked as though it had snowed. But, everywhere I look in my yard I see my hosta pips! Spring will get here! All that to say there’s not a local rush out here to get out in the chilly cold & buy plants yet. Sebright should have plenty of stock when you’re ready to buy!

Would love to visit Sebright Gardens. I have had fantastic hostas shipped from them. I have seen their gardens on an episode of Garden Smart which is shown on my PBS channel. Their fuchsias look amazing/ I have never been in the Northwest but there are so many nurseries I would love to visit out there. I don't have any local nurseries that have a lot of special hostas.

When I say a couple were smaller than I hoped, It's because Krossa Regal is one of my favorites and this one only had 2 smaller pips. The Regal Supreme had 2 fat pips. Francee had about 6 (I know, she's common, but I still like her), Elvis Lives had about 7 and Blue Mouse ears had so many, I didn't even count. I didn't mean to be critical, my order was excellent....just lamenting that the Krossa Regal wouldn't replace the one I lost a couple of years ago.

I saved my Sebright catalog I got when I was there. It’s a really great reference. @miles10612 You’re right that their fuchsias look amazing. The grounds & gardens at Sebright are beautiful & very established so there’s lots to look at and swoon over!

be careful of Sum & Substance from a box store... they may have signs of HXV. I am relatively certain they don't check their plants. On the other hand I had a Gold Standard that was quite old that wound up with it. Go figure.

@bkay2000 Lakeside Midnight Miss is a great hosta. They are the first to come up in my 6b midwest garden. I bought a bunch of plugs from Q&Z before they closed, and all 12 of the LS Midnight Miss survived and thrived. Of that order, the other two varieties that have performed the best are Mystic Star (10 of the 12) and Great Lakes Gold (6 out of 12).

debra..said this before but I’ll mention it..I also had an old Gold Standard from a big box store with HVX..funny that the other 2 I bought at the same time aren’t infected..I watch them like a hawk..and never clip them..
