Complaining neighbor video about too many figs. Location Columbus OH. I know a couple who run a side business from their home which is inside city limits. Only difference is They have 10 times this many fig plants, all in containers. The plants are healthy, everything is neat, clean and orderly.

If you were the neighbor would this be a problem? Why or why not?

Maybe it would look better in appearance if he painted those 5 gallon buckets green or a more camouflaged color, the white buckets stand out like a sore thumb and makes it appear less like a garden/orchard and more like a construction site. I have to admire his success and set up at growing so many different types of figs and just how healthy they look.

Yeah, better looking pots might help as would getting some of the ripe fruit. Though not something I would do, I would defend their right to do it. Seems like a great opportunity for neighbors to come up to them to talk about the process…a chance to build a sense of community rather than discord.

Wouldn't be a problem for me! I'd much rather have a neighbor growing healthy and productive plants than a empty garden filled with an environmentally unfriendly lawn or a bunch of gnomes or other inane ornaments. As long as the plants are on their property and they are not interfering with access or right of way, I think they should be able to grow however many fruit trees they like, especially if they share with the neighbors or give the excess away.

Running a business from home may be another matter if it attracts a lot of traffic. But that can depend on location. In my very suburban-semi rural area, there are a number of small on-property businesses - a dahlia farm selling tubers and cut flower, another selling eggs (several, in fact), a couple of assorted "farm" stands, and the best - one that does fresh baked bread 4 times a week!! Her rustic sourdough is to die for!!

I will put up with any traffic issues for those but tmk, there never has been any.

The pots are sure ugly. That would be kind of gorgeous otherwise. The plants are sure nice-looking. Is there some kind of fig publicity organization that can upgrade that man's buckets? :P

Not a fig fan but I've always loved the trees.

I think it's a beautiful sight. Far more attractive than a giant truck parked on the drive. Probably far more interesting and skillfully cared for than any of the other front gardens in the street.

That story made the news here couple years ago here in Illinois.

The way i see it is his house his property surely if it was a code violation something would have been done by now years later.

The pots are an eyesore for sure. Yes better than an old run down truck but that’s not what it is. It’s super weird.. and I love fig trees..

Here in Maine there would not be anything anyone could do. We passed an admentment to our constitution that states people have a right to grow their own food.

Its just a natural right and no HOA or zoning law can preclude a Mainer from having chickens… or fig trees… or whatever food they prefer.

That will spread to other states soon though. A person has a right to grow their own food

Out of all contributors here, who is growing at last one fig tree in container ?
