Seeking Tree Reccomendation!

Hi All,

I am looking for advice for 2 trees to plant in the locations indicated on the pictures below (location is Berkshire county Massachusetts). The two elm trees that were there unfortunately needed to be removed due to disease. I was originally thinking autumn blaze maple or October glory maple, however I wonder if the red foliage color will not look good against the red brick (and wonder if ppl have suggestions for trees with yellow fall color). I was also wondering if those trees would be too big/dense for that location. Some alternative suggestions were crabapple and other ornamental trees (although I don’t love the way crabapples look most of the year besides for when they flower).

Do ppl have any suggestions? Shade tree vs ornamental tree? If so which type of either?

I am not sure you need big trees at all.There seem to be many trees in your area maybe something more interesting and in keeping with the very formal landscaping.I might be tempted to do someting even more formal like this and have trees further away fromm the house so like this pic where they are more in the background.

I recommend contacting your county extension service for tree recommendations.

My Autumn Maple thrived for 20 years, but now the clay soil in our area is causing it to die from chlorosis.

The dreaded Emerald Ash Borer has reached our area so our three established ash trees are now threatened.

Talk to your local experts. I believe there is no change for their consultation.

I'd consider an Amelanchier, serviceberry. Not a large tree (15-25') and can be found in more shrubby forms as well. Native, gorgeous spring flowers, tasty fruit that the birds will love (& you too, if the birds leave any) and great fall color. Not fussy about soils but does not appreciate drying out.
