Mistake in kitchen design

We had a new set of cabinets installed. We are disappointed with how close the stove is to the corner. There is a 3" filler strip between the stove and corner cabinet. We would like the stove to be moved farther from the corner, but then there would be a 6" filler piece on the top and bottom cabinets. Any suggestions what we could do? Or should we just leave it?

It is close but in a good spot. The oven door clears the pulls on the cabinets to the right and the sink is far enough away that opening the oven door won't interfere with someone standing there. All you need now is a pull out oven in the narrow upper on the left. The lower left will be a great place for baking sheets.

I agree with palimpsest that you don't want it right next to the doorway.

Im assuming that the stove was there before and so the drawer on the right will still open?

I was used to the stove by the doorway and no cabinet beside it. We decided we wanted a cabinet on the left, but we didn't realize our cabinet builder would move it over that far. I guess it's just something to get used to. I just didn't think it looked nice to have it so close, but I suppose it's something I will get used to. Also the top drawer to the right of the stove hits the oven door, so we have to open the oven door to get into that drawer. I'm not sure how the cabinet builder is going to fix that!

When it's time to replace the current range, maybe you can get one that sits more flush with the cabinetry--possibly that might solve the issue with being able to pull out the drawer?

That's what I'm hoping for, but I need at least 3". Need to shop for stoves and see what I can find. Sad that our cabinet builder didn't catch this, but I know everyone makes mistakes!

If you can't open a drawer, then that is something you should not live with and the cabinet person should definitely fix. Hope you haven't paid in full ... the drawer issue needs to be fixed before full payment.

Take a cardboard box the size of your hood or microwave that is going over the stove. Tape it up. See if you can open the door. If not, then you need to move both the base and wall cabinets closer to the doorway, with bigger fillers. For the blind base corner that isn't pulled enough, since the rest of the cabinets are already in, he needs to make a smaller drawer, and cover over the opening with a filler overlay. Newer ranges are actually much deeper than your existing. You have to account for the future replacement needs in the design math. Same with your fridge, which you haven't shown. A standard refrigerator alcove is 36" wide by 72" tall. Or else people have to alter the cabinet above when getting a new fridge.

I was just in a house where the 1970s stove, which was probably cabinet depth, was replaced with a newer one that stuck out more and the drawer adjacent to the stove had been modified by taking off the drawer face, cutting it, attaching the small piece to the cabinet and attaching the longer piece to a narrower drawer box, so the drawer would open. Cheaper than making a whole new cabinet because of the deeper stove: Of course the picture won't post because this site sucks

Thank you for the suggestions! The cabinet builder has looked at it and has given us some options. Just a hard lesson learned to double check all measurements and see if it's all like you want it.
