I am approx. 72 km - 45 miles SW of Ottawa. That would be above Almonte and rural.

I would look at anemone or japanese form peonies. No clue what specific one you have, but the outer row of guard petals is key to the form.

Thank you indianagardengirlthat was very helpful. As much as I adore Peonies I have never delved deeply into all the forms since I like them all. I have contemplated it being P. Immaculee before and now I am almost sure. I hope to hear yay or nay from you and others.

Laurie, I also love peonies!! I have an old Modesta and a Monsier Jules Elis. They are fragrant but my neighbors have ones that are extremely fragrant and they all let me cut them for bouquets . Not many people seem to be wild about peonies…..they mention the ants. But I just swish them in a bucket of water before bringing them in and the ants usually come off. I dump the water and the ants can crawl away.

They are fabulous aren't they Debra! I must look up those two you mentioned. We should start a thread on them in the Perennial Forum. It will be a while before mine bloom (except 'Early Scout') but I am sure yours will be earlier. I have heard people complain about the ants too but they are only interested in the nectar from the buds. Good on us for just accepting them! I have far bigger issues than a few harmless ants lol!
