Mini Palm Plant Sprout?

Hello,
I have a palm plant that started growing an offside shoot and I’m not sure whether to prune it or not. I doubt that it’s new leaves as they don’t ever grow enveloped like this. I ended up cutting a small section of it and it looks like seeds inside? Would appreciate any advice. Not sure what variety this is, but I live in a mediterranean region.
