@faith_kl Yes - successfully loaded. That’s an interesting decor dilemma. On the one hand it’s an interesting architectural feature - on the other, maybe a bit of change would be good. I don’t dislike it at all. Does the brick get warm when wood stove on? Wonder if that has to be factored into whatever is done. My first thought was to wrap it / cover it. Can’t decide if wood or sheet rock like wall would be better because you have lovely wood flooring. But maybe it just should be painted the same color as walls leaving the brick texture. But, the question about the heat? Let’s see what others come up with!

Cladding it with wood or drywall or tile or just about anything is just going to make it larger.

The brick is OK as is. But I would be tempted to paint it the same as the walls.

I would also look at painting it a lighter color.

I like it as is. You could make it lighter as others suggested if you want a slightly different look. You could perhaps hang some plates on the kitchen side and maybe a very long narrow tapestry on the living room side. Another suggestion is to make it a plant wall by hanging some plant pots off of it.

At least in brick you understand what it is. To enclose it by itself right next to other free-standing columns would just be kind of odd, I think.

Is there no other way to vent the wood stave on the outside ? I think if this is only for the wood stove I would redo the whole idea of a wood stove . I have a chimney in the center of my home that vents my boiler and HW tank I built a fabulouse storage cube around it it is almost invisible now and the storage has frosted glass doors on some , true pullout pantries in some units took me a few hours to plan it but it is awesome IMO if it has to stay drywall it and make it a invisible as possible It looks to me like you spent a lot of money on removing a wall I am still confused as to why this needs to be so huge for a stove vent.

I love old chimneys as a historical feature! if it were mine, I would love to see shade-tolerant plants around it, possibly even some sort of vine.
