ground cover plants

Location: northern Maryland

I have an area in my yard right under a beautiful red leaf maple, magnolia and some pine tree. Originally, we wanted to put a stone walkway but there are so many tree roots that I do not want to disturb. When it rains, there is tons of mud so it is a VERY moist and shady section. I’m hoping to create a natural ground coverage walkway that keeps green most of the year and with flowers that help with pollination. I was considering sweet wooddruff. Is there any low ground coverage that I could use for this area? Also needs to be deer resistant.
