When to pinch back Balloon Flowers?

Last year the Balloon Flowers got out of control and flopped over on other perennials and the sidewalk so I ended up staking them. This year I'd like to avoid staking so wondering at what height do I start pinching them back and not lose flowering? I have 2 plantings which are now about 10 inches high and nice size clumps and growing fast. Poor Dearest Valentine is going to be overwhelmed if I don't get them under control. Thanks.
